On January 1st, 2023 – a new Forbidden Door will open in professional wrestling, as WWE Superstar Shinsuke Nakamura will be on hand for a match against The Great Muta for Pro Wrestling NOAH. It was a match no one expected to see announced, and is perhaps the biggest stop on the on-going retirement tour of Keiji Muto simply due to how crazy it is to see a wrestler from WWE appear on a PPV for another promotion. However, this was not something that came together overnight – with it being in talks since before the retirement of Vince McMahon.
Shinsuke Nakamura Says This Match Happening Is A Miracle
In an interview with TokyoSports, Shinsuke Nakamura would speak on how this match coming together was a ‘miracle’. TokyoSports would report the following in regards to when the match itself came together.
“After an initial disagreement, he (Nakamura) continued to negotiate tenaciously with a new regime after Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon retired in July. The final agreement was reached on the 26th of this month, and it seems that the tenacity has paid off.”
Nakamura would be quoted saying the following about the match coming together, and his history with Muto.
“There were people in WWE who pushed my back. It’s nothing but a miracle. Of course, I wanted to do it. I opened a door that no one could break in. Hahaha…it’s a real ‘Forbidden Door’. I think it’s really fate, and I worked hard to make it happen. I’ve fought Keiji Muto twice in the past, but this was my first encounter with Great Muta, the first and last. I definitely think that I am in the midst of the miracle of the times.”
This will be the first time in three and a half years that Nakamura has had a chance to wrestle in his home country, as WWE has not toured the country since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to get any outside companies in the country until earlier this year. WWE is hoping to return to Japan soon, and even have restarted talks of NXT Japan.
