No one can say that Toni Storm is not a fighting champion in AEW, even if she’s only the Interim champion. Just four days before meeting Jamie Hayter in a title defence, she accepted a match for AEW Dynamite. Originally set to face The Bunny, things were changed at the last minute to Anna Jay due to Bunny falling ill, meaning Storm will need to adapt her gameplan on the fly. Should Jay claim the win, she will get the first title shot after Full Gear – making this a very valuable match for the rising star.
Toni Storm Doesn’t Take Foot Off Gas Before Full Gear
Jay would avoid the opening lock up with Storm before ending up in a side headlock. Storm would take Jay down to the mat, but was unable to keep her there. Jay would be able to set up a lungblower in the corner, before a kick to the side of the face. Storm would be put on the defensive, getting choked on the middle rope.
Jay would continue the choking in the corner, soaking in the crowd at the same time. Rear chinlock was applied in the middle of the ring, Jay trying to soften Storm up for the Queenslayer choke. Storm would be able to break free, getting a Thesz Press and some hard punches to Jay.
Fisherman Suplex would get the champion a two count, before a hip attack sent Jay tumbling the floor. Storm would follow Jay out, and got driven into the steel steps before being hit with a Gory Bomb. Another Gory Bomb in the ring got a near fall, Jay not hooking the leg allowing for a kick out.
Queenslayer was attempted, but Storm would block before a shotgun dropkick. Running hip attack would be followed by the Texas Cloverleaf – with Jay tapping out immediately. Hayter would hit the ring after the fact, going face to face with the champion one last time before Full Gear.
Jon Moxley Makes The AEW World Championship Matter
There’s only a few more sleeps before we hit Full Gear – the final big AEW PPV of 2022. Fittingly, it has perhaps the biggest AEW main event of the year. AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has been a proud fighting champion, and he will once again get to test to see if MJF is ready to break away from being known as a ‘future star’. Tonight, they meet face to face one final time, before they seek to tear each other apart on Saturday.
Moxley hit the ring first, and reminded everyone just who he is. The championship doesn’t make the man, the man makes the championship – and the best professional wrestler on planet earth holding that belt makes it. He has taken on all comers, travelled the world, and defined that belt over three reigns.
Moxley doesn’t love fighting, he’s addicted to it. He’s addicted to professional wrestling, loves every part of it – even the pain. You can hurt him, and it doesn’t matter. However, we don’t know who MJF is. Moxley did some research.
MJF is a good singer, he’s got one win in the last six months, beating Wheeler Yuta. He took a long vacation, won a ladder match by being handed a poker chip by Stokely Hathaway, and now wants to step up to the champion. That is why Moxley isn’t scared, before MJF is scared of not living up to the hype.
MJF Comes To The Aid Of Jon Moxley
At Full Gear, MJF isn’t challenging Jon Moxley. Jon Moxley is challenging MJF to show something. To prove he’s not just potential, that he can live up to the hype. Before MJF would hit the ring, The Firm would rush down Moxley & William Regal in the ring. MJF used to pay them, but after a brutal beatdown – he seemingly cut ties.
He’d hit the ramp taking down The Gunns & Lee Moriarty, before a low blow on W. Morrissey and one for Ethan Page. MJF cleared the field pretty quickly – as he wants to prove something. While Jon Moxley lays there in a ton of pain, MJF is going to explain something. MJF didn’t save him, he just wants to ensure there are no excuses come Full Gear.
MJF is going to prove himself, and achieve his goal of being the best professional wrestler in the world. They met in 2020, but MJF is not the same kid. You can drop him on his head, drain his blood, and break his bones. MJF needs that belt more than water, food or oxygen. That belt would prove he’s the best wrestler in the world, and he needs it.
Last week, Moxley claimed that MJF is not the devil. However, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was pretending he never existed. Moxley would stop MJF before his catchphrase, and said that simply put – if MJF doesn’t show guts, Moxley will yank them out. At Full Gear – the training wheels come off.
