Candace Cameron Bure has hit back at her critics following the backlash to her comments about marriage.
Candace Cameron Bure Slams Those Criticising Her Comments About Marriage-‘The Media Is Often Seeking To Divide Us’
Candace, for her part, is known for being an ardent Christian. But she did not help herself when she spoke about her decision to leave the Hallmark Channel for the sake of the Great American Family network.
During the course of that process, Candace was asked about the concept of same-sex couples being on a TV screen. In response, she praised the Great American Family for ensuring that they would “keep traditional marriage at the core.”
That did not sit very well with some of her critics: step forward Hilarie Burton. She made it very clear in no uncertain terms that Candace’s comments were inflammatory.
Not only that, but she called out the star on the basis that she was not living up to what she was preaching. In her comments at the time, Hilarie remarked: “I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy.
“But sure. Make your money, honey,” the “One Tree Hill” alum, 40, tweeted. “You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank.”
It is not surprising, then, that Candace wanted to clear up any misconceptions that may have emerged. And in the process, she called out the media on the basis that this was an attempt to smear her.
In addition, she suggested that these accusations were designed to divide people at a time where unity was needed. Her following comments confirmed as much: “All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people.
“It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us.” The fans on social media felt that this had been blown out of proportion.
A certain subset were of the view that praising traditional marriage did not mean an automatic attack on those which did not fit that definition. One person wrote: “Why does @candacecbure have to defend her remarks on traditional marriage.”
