In a case of corruption dating back decades, a Kansas City detective took bribes to look the other way while a trio of sex traffickers ran roughshod on an apartment complex. The same detective was alleged to have abused his power to sexually assault women for a four-year period.
Former Kansas City Detective Indicted On Bribery to Protect Sex Traffickers and Sexual Assault
Between 1996 and 1998, Cecil Brooks, Richard Robinson, and LeMark Roberson forced young women to provide sexual services to men out of the Delevan Apartments, according to the DOJ.
The three were also said to have beaten, threatened, and raped the women to keep them compliant. One girl was held for several months and subjected to assault and beatings while another managed to escape.
Enter former detective Roger Golubski who took money from Brooks to keep his fellow officers off the trio’s backs. The trio also offered up women to Golubski as payment for his protection.
According to the indictment, Golubski allegedly had a penchant for Black girls—some as young as 13.
It is also alleged that he choked and raped a 16-year-old girl in the Delevan Apartments. Following his arrangement with Brooks and company, he was hit with a civil rights violation for abusing his authority and sexually assaulting women between 1998 and 2002.
A jury indicted Golubski, Brooks, Roberson, and Robinson for conspiracy to hold young women in involuntary servitude and forcing them to provide sexual services on November 14, 2022. The conspirators could receive a life sentence if convicted in court.
Roger Golubski is expected to receive house arrest instead of jail because of health concerns.
