We’re nearing the final match of Keiji Muto, with the legend set to retire in 2023. However, before he reaches that date – he will bring his chilling alter ego back to NJPW for one final showing. The Great Muta showed up during the NJPW World Television Tournament, helping old friend Toru Yano to defeat Great-O-Khan. Now tonight, he teams with Yano for the first time since 2014 and with Kazuchika Okada for the first time – as they face down Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb & Aaron Henare of The United Empire in a historic six man tag.
Never Mock The Great Muta
Gideon Grey would claim during the ring introductions, that this won’t simply be the final match of Great Muta in NJPW; but in general – as Great-O-Khan will end his career here tonight. Muta would start with O-Khan, going for the green mist – with Khan ducking before choking him with his braid.
This would head to the outside, where Muta would choke O-Khan with a camera cable. Okada would hit a running elbow drop in the ring. Yano would get the tag, with Henare meeting him with some fast strikes. Cobb would tag in, getting a one armed delayed suplex before riding the surfboard on Yano – while mocking the mist of Muta.
Muta would hit the ring, catching O-Khan with a series of Dragon Screws – before the shining wizard would be blocked. O-Khan would go after the famously injured knees of Muta with a claw hold, with Muta finding the bottom rope. Okada would get the tag, hitting a scoop slam and diving elbow drop on Henare.
Great-O-Khan Tastes The Dangerous Red Mist
Rainmaker Pose was struck, with Henare nailing an elbow to the head of Okada instead. Rushing elbow smash would be avoided in the corner, before Henare hit a knee smash. United Empire would press the numbers edge on Okada, hitting rushing strikes in the corner before SpinCycle Suplex into a PK. Great-O-Khan would try to use green mist on Muta, but he ducked and blinded Cobb.
Muta would hit the burning red mist on O-Khan, before Okada hit the dropkick on Henare. Shining Wizard would follow, before the Rainmaker would end this match. The final match of NJPW for Muta ends in success, with Great-O-Khan taking a Shining Wizard after the bell.
Mutoh intends to use his Great Muta persona one last time, when he faces Shinsuke Nakamura on January 1st in Pro Wrestling NOAH. Will he be able to defeat the WWE Superstar? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
