Right now – we’re seeing the final matches of one of the biggest legends in japanese wresting history. Keiji Muto is on his retirement tour, before retiring in a huge match in Tokyo Dome in February 2023. He’s getting as many appearances in as possible before then, even recently showing up in AEW to help an old rival of Sting. We’re going to see him lock up with Hiroshi Tanahashi soon in Pro Wrestling NOAH, and Tanahashi has offered Muto a final match in NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17 as well.
Keiji Muto Unsure If He Can Work Two Matches In Same Week
During coverage from TokyoSports, we’d get the following information after translating. The following would be revealed.
“At the NOAH press conference earlier today where they announced Muto/Nakajima/Inamura vs Tanahashi/Honma/Makabe for the NOAH show on 10/30, Tanahashi also invited Muto to have his last match in NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17. Muto said he was interested, but unsure as he has a match for NOAH on 1/1 and is worried about his hips holding up if he wrestles two matches so close together.
The fact that Tanahashi made this offer in public says to me that Muto is probably already scheduled to appear at WK17, they just might legitimately not be sure if he can wrestle at both yet so are tampering expectations.”
Muto showing up at Wrestle Kingdom 17 to be honored ahead of his retirement is a natural choice, as he has deep roots in NJPW – being a multiple time IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Putting him in a big six man tag team match at Wrestle Kingdom will be great, but it’d be understandable if he chooses to go all out at the New Years event for Pro Wrestling NOAH instead.
Muto has not yet revealed the layout of his final match, but it has been confirmed that Sting will be involved – making his Pro Wrestling NOAH debut. Do you think Muto will work a match at Wrestle Kingdom 17? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
