UFC lightweight Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett is rapidly becoming a household name. His natural charisma, skills on the microphone, and penchant for early finishes have made the Liverpool native remarkably popular among MMA fans and casuals alike.
Another factor in Pimblett’s popularity is his enormous weight gain and loss between fights, leading him to earn the nickname “Paddy the Fatty”. With Pimblett set to face Jared Gordon at UFC 282 this December, he discussed his plan to lose fifty pounds for fight night in a recent vlog.
Paddy Pimblett Plans to Lose 50 Pounds for UFC 282
“There’s no rocket science to it. It’s not hard. Get yourself in a calorie deficit. Why do you think I get so fat? Because I’ve got to go from eating 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day to eating 8,000 a day. That’s why the weight piles on and that’s why it comes off so easy.”
Pimblett’s disciplined diet – at least in the buildup to his fights – has served him well, with “The Baddy” currently 3-0 in the UFC with a 100% finish rate. His second-round submission victory over Jordan Leavitt in July, however, was a very difficult weight cut for Pimblett, who described preparing for that fight as “one of the worst camps of my life”.
“Last camp was one of the worst camps of my life. The day I got back from America, I had, like, seven weeks to make weight. The UFC just announced that date and I was like, I’m going to have to fight on it, aren’t I? It’s in the O2. I had seven weeks to lose, like, 20 kilos [around 44 pounds], and I did it.
Where I’m at now, I’ve got, like, nine kilos [around 20 pounds] to lose. I’ve done more than that overnight. I’ve done 8.4 kilos overnight before, I can do nine kilos in four weeks.”
Paddy Pimblett’s prodigious, showy jiu-jitsu game earned him a Cage Warriors title long before he arrived in the UFC. Pimblett, who plans on adding a UFC belt to his trophy cabinet before his career is over, is promising yet another characteristic early finish at UFC 282.
“I promise you now. Jared Gordon’s getting finished in the first. Watch.” Pimblett may well be extra motivated after his best friend and training partner Molly McCann was finished via kimura in her most recent appearance, against jiu-jitsu ace Erin Blanchfield.
