At the latest All Elite Wrestling PPV Full Gear, wrestling fans got to see a return five years in the making. Saraya was able to return from a nasty neck injury that forced her into early retirement – and defeated Britt Baker in an emotional match. However, despite being cleared – Saraya is intending to remain cautious and avoid certain high risk moves.
Saraya Won’t Be Taking German Suplexes Or Piledrivers
While speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Saraya would have a chance to explain what moves she doesn’t intend on taking during his return run. Saraya had the following to say.
“I need to be cautious this time. I don’t want to take a German suplex, you’ll see plenty of those in other matches. I’m good not taking a German suplex and a piledriver. I can tell a story. It’s fine. I’m still gonna be bumping around and doing my thing. There’s just some moves I’m taking out of my repertoire.”
In an industry like professional wrestling, you’re only as safe as your style allows you to be. Saraya is right to be cautious about her neck, and avoiding common spots might help her matches stand out more on cards going forward. While big bumps often make for exciting matches, the likes of Ric Flair and Minoru Suzuki have proven they’re not essential in every single match.
Not everyone is like Edge or Bryan Danielson, who came back from injury and went full tilt back into doing as much as possible. Saraya in AEW is already becoming one of the more interesting parts of the show, and if a focus on storytelling is going to become her brand – that will be welcome.
We might see her come around to taking more bumps as she gets more comfortable in the ring again, and that might well be a restricting factor in who she faces – with the likes of Toni Storm & Jamie Hayter working very high impact styles that feature lots of piledrivers and suplexes.
