Border Patrol at the World Trade Bridge seized a big haul of cocaine on November 22, 2022. The bust was pretty routine in execution for officers as a 2001 Freightliner truck was stopped at the checkpoint claiming a manifest of polypropylene film.

During a secondary inspection, officers used both x-ray imagining and drug-sniffing dogs to detect narcotics inside the trailer. A physical search turned up 118.91 pounds of wrapped-up cocaine. The CBP estimated the drugs to have a street value of $1,587,777. Port Director Albert Flores said of the seizure:
“This is an excellent seizure by our officers working at the CBP cargo facilities. It’s a perfect example of their unfailing vigilance in guarding our nation’s borders and protecting lawful trade and travel.”
The cocaine is in the possession of U.S Customs and Border Protection while the suspect and the investigation were handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. It wasn’t like one of the more festive smuggling attempts that occurred around Halloween but this was definitely an attempt at a big run across one of the most heavily guarded entries.
