Since the start of the current era of NXT, two powerhouses have really ran the show. Bron Breakker is the obvious one, with him in his second reign as NXT Champion – and gladly fighting all contenders. However, Von Wagner has been running through the roster as well, and over a year ago made his debut in a match for the NXT Championship. Tonight, he gets a second chance to call himself champion – as he goes one on one with Breakker for the first time ever, with the NXT Championship on the line.
Von Wagner Thinks Fast As The Match Begins
Robert Stone would be thrown at Breakker as the match began, causing a distraction before Wagner would kick the champion in the face. Wagner followed him with a hard back elbow to the face, before looking for another big boot. Breakker would slide away from the boot before hitting a shoulder tackle.
A suplex would send Wagner across the ring, before Breakker hit the Frankensteiner. Side headlock would be applied, with Wagner slipping to the apron and stretching the arm of Breakker over the top rope. Wagner would focus in on the arm of Breakker, trapping it behind the back before a scoop slam.
A swift elbow drop would be followed by a one count, before Breakker would be able to catch Wagner with a delayed vertical suplex – showing that arm remains fine. Breakker picked up speed with a massive lariat, before adopting a stance familiar to fans of his father as Wagner recovered in the corner. Wagner would grab the arm and mix in a chinlock, seeking to ground Breakker in the middle of the ring.
Bron Breakker Shows Why He’s Still Champion
Breakker would manage to counter into a side headlock, showing a better mat game than the challenger. Switching into a headscissor lock, Wagner would try to twist and reach the bottom rope, only for Breakker to shift into a front headlock, rolling to keep control and moving into a side headlock. Wagner would work his way to his feet, and caught Breakker with a back suplex.
Out to the ringside area, Wagner would whip Breakker into the steel steps – before chokeslamming Breakker hard onto the steps. Back into the ring, Wagner would try to get the win – but Breakker was able to kick out before three. A series of backdrops would be followed by another near fall, the champion truly on the defensive.
Breakker would try and fight back to his feet, before being set up on the top rope. Wagner looked for a superplex, but was shoved off before Breakker flew in with a lariat. Breakker would hit the running shoulder tackles before catching Wagner with the powerslam out of midair. Diving bulldog followed, before Wagner caught a charging Breakker into a Death Valley Driver.
Wagner wasted time arguing with the referee after a near fall, before Breakker would rise and hit the spear for the victory. Who will face Bron Breakker at NXT Deadline? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
