Last week, NXT closed out with Von Wagner shooting his shot at Bron Breakker, landing a big boot to the face. Tonight, we get the answers on just what he is looking for – as both men are special guests on the latest edition of the best talk show on Tuesday Nights – The Grayson Waller Effect hosted by the man who crushed R-Truth, Grayson Waller!
Bron Breakker To Defend The NXT Championship Next Week Against Von Wagner
Waller would be as fired up as usual, and bragging about putting the legendary R-Truth on the shelf. He’d announce that next week, the NXT Championship will be on the line – Wagner getting his first chance at the match since the NXT 2.0 debut episode in 2021. He’s improved plenty since then, and in size alone – is the biggest challenge Breakker has ever faced.
Wagner came out with Robert Stone, while Breakker wore a leather jacket previously worn by his father – Rick Steiner, who is never far away. Waller would stir the pot, echoing fans who feel Waller himself or Carmelo Hayes deserves the chance more. Wagner is not surprised that people don’t like him, because that was never his goal.
NXT fans are jealous of the once in a lifetime talent that is Wagner. He’s not here to be popular – he’s here to make money. Breakker acknowledges that Wagner is bigger and more dangerous than anyone he’s faced. The stats make it an even match up. However, a cowardly attack from behind – that just has Breakker pissed off.
Waller would stir the pot again, showing a comment from a fan saying they’d be happy seeing anyone take it from him. Breakker would say that it doesn’t matter who comes at him, no one will take it from him. Wagner would say it took Pete Dunne, LA Knight & Tommaso Ciampa to take him down in his first chance – and intends to prove he’s the better second generation star when he rips the belt off the shoulder of Breakker.
JD McDonagh Targets The Leg
In his last match, JD McDonagh sent Ilja Dragunov out of the arena after a downright vicious match. Losing his second chance to become NXT Champion has caused something to snap within him, and he’s taking it out on the roster of NXT. Tonight, Axiom steps up to try and stop him – seeing this a chance to bounce back from his loss in the best of three series against Nathan Frazer. Some look at Axiom like a superhero, and defeating The Necessary Evil would only help to support those beliefs.
McDonagh would run down Axiom as this match began, before some fast paced grappling on the mat would see McDonagh win out. Axiom would counter a neck lock and attack the arms of McDonagh, before throwing some quick strikes – just missing a potential KO worthy kick to the head.
McDonagh would try to force a pinfall, before a standing surfboard stretch would be turned into a pinfall, with Axiom showing his neck strength. Axiom would send McDonagh to the floor with a dropkick, before the action would be broken up by a commercial break. Back from the break, McDonagh regained control after kicking the steel steps into the knees of Axiom.
Taking away the speed of Axiom would be wise, but a knee smash in the ring was blocked – allowing Axiom to hit a kick to the head. The dropkick again sent McDonagh to the floor, the Axiom would follow the Golden Ratio Moonsault – landing on McDonagh, but smashing his knee off the floor.
Axiom Is Unable To Reach His Feet
Back in the ring, McDonagh would target the knee before Axiom twisted into a choke – with McDonagh getting his foot on the bottom rope. McDonagh would again go after the knee, looking for a single leg boston crab, but being booted in the face. Full Boston Crab would keep the kicks away, but Axiom was able to make the single rope.
They’d trade strikes in the middle of the ring, with Axiom hitting a hard palm strike to the jaw. The knee gave him troubles, and he’d stumble into a headbutt from McDonagh. Going to the top rope, McDonagh would look for the moonsault, but was caught into the triangle choke instead.
Axiom would block the powerbomb counter with a hurricanrana before a two count. Devil Inside Suplex was blocked into a chokehold, with McDonagh able to barely block. Armbar was equally blocked, before pressure was put on the ankle of Axiom, causing a pop – a potential injury. Axiom urged for the match to not be stopped, but he could not stand. This one ended in referee stoppage.
