According to Florida Today, the Tacoma was sent across U.S 192 and into the parking lot of the fireworks store. The woman driving the Tacoma was able to turn left but the driver of the Durango continued through the parking lot and into the storefront of Phantom Fireworks.
After crashing into the store, supplies inside began exploding and ignited other fireworks. With all the explosives going off, a fire followed and eventually engulfed the store. Firefighters tackled the blaze and U.S 192 was shut down for several hours.
Richard Griffin, spotted the store explosions and figured a gas station had exploded instead. In speaking with Florida Today he said of the incident:
“The mortars and stuff like that, those things can go 100 yards or more when you shoot them straight in the air. So you’ve got these mortars and all sorts of different types of fireworks that are shooting all over the place — and I could not believe how close people were.”
