Deputies managed to find the suspect—Aidan Sauco-Maldonado (18)—was found shortly after his escape. It was noted that he smelled of alcohol and told deputies that he swerved the truck off the road and into the house because there was a shadow in the roadway.
As this is Florida, Sauco-Maldonado could have easily seen anything on the road while driving and it probably would’ve been valid. However, since authorities noticed that he was intoxicated, it’s possible he “saw” a shadow in the road.
Flagler County deputies weren’t buying the 18-year-old’s excuse and he was charged with driving under the influence, running from deputies, and crashing into a residence.
