When the Iron Survivor Challenge was announced, there were a lot of questions about just how this match would work. It’s essentially a gauntlet style ironman match with a penalty box, a twenty five minute time limit, and five top names looking for a chance at the NXT Championship. Carmelo Hayes, Joe Gacy, Grayson Waller, and JD McDonagh were picked by a Hall of Fame panel, and Axiom would earn his spot defeating Von Wagner & Andre Chase.
Two wrestlers start, and every five minutes someone else hits the ring. You get points for a pinfall or submission, and those who took the fall will end up in the penalty box for 90 seconds. At the end of the 25 minute time limit, the person with the post points gets the victory. Earlier in the show, Roxanne Perez won the first ever women’s Iron Survivor Challenge, and now we find out who will win the men’s match.
Grayson Waller Wastes No Time Taking The Lead
McDonagh & Axiom would start this match, with Axiom having said he wanted to start the match to have the most time to claim falls. It worked for Perez, and could work for Axiom. McDonagh would try to kick Axiom as he was making his entrance, but was unsuccessful before being sent to the floor. Axiom tried to hit a dive, before being blocked by an uppercut.
McDonagh would be shoved into the ring post, before Axiom would throw him face first into the penalty box. Axiom came off the top rope in the ring, only to be taken out of the sky with a dropkick. McDonagh would take an enziguri, before a stalling dropkick in the corner. Axiom would be hit with the discus lariat and powerbomb, but was able to kick out.
Carmelo Hayes would hit the ring at the five minute mark, hitting the springboard lariat immediately. Axiom would take the Fade Away, but McDonagh broke the pinfall up. Hayes & McDonagh would trade some blows before Axiom took them both down with a neckbreaker/DDT combo.
Axiom would send them both to the floor, but was unable to get the Golden Ratio moonsault. Hayes would take a double superkick, before hitting a twisting suplex cutter to pin Axiom – making Hayes the first to get on the board. While Axiom was in the penalty box, McDonagh would hit a suplex before a backbreaker in the ring before a Spanish Fly in the middle.
Axiom would dive onto both opponents with a crossbody, before taking a double chop to the throat. McDonagh would redirect a kick to the face of Hayes, as Grayson Waller hit the ring with a double stunner to get two points – pinning Axiom & McDonagh.
Joe Gacy Picks Up The Pace
McDonagh & Axiom were sent to the penalty box, as Waller hit a right hand to the jaw of Hayes trying to knock him out. Hayes would avoid the Electric Chair Drop to the apron, only to be hit with the Stunner, before Axiom & McDonagh battled in the penalty box, with Axiom winning out before hitting the ring.
Waller would be there to shove Axiom into the box before taking a superkick from Hayes. Back into the ring, Hayes hit a Falcon Arrow for a two count before taking some trash and being shoved from the ring. A backdrop onto the announce desk would follow, before Waller would try to provoke Booker T on commentary.
Back in the ring, Axiom would pin Waller with a cradle pinfall before pinning McDonagh with the Golden Ratio Superkick. Joe Gacy would hit the ring at the 15 minute mark, more than ready to take advantage of the tired field. Gacy would hit some stiff kicks in the ring, before some explosive lariats.
Axiom would be dropped with a discus lariat before being locked in the Rings of Saturn – getting Gacy on the board with a submission. McDonagh would get some revenge beating down Axiom in the box, while Gacy hit the Upside Down Lariat on Hayes to get his second fall.
Grayson Waller Steals The Victory
Gacy would show his speed with a springboard crossbody, before McDonagh tried to lock Axiom in the box – only for Axiom to climb out and hit a big moonsault. Hayes would be let out of the box, running right into a kick to the head of Gacy. Waller would meet him in the ring, being dropped by La Mistica into a crossface – making him tap out, pushing Hayes to two falls.
Gacy would drag Axiom into the ring, before the Uranage would be blocked into a triangle choke. Axiom would have the hold broke up by a Scissor Kick from Hayes, before McDonagh with hit the Devil Inside suplex off the apron. Hayes & Gacy took the suplex next, and finally caught Waller, only for everyone to break the pinfall up.
Gacy would miss the Upside Down Lariat, but caught Waller on the floor with a urange onto the steps. A Bubba Bomb would set up Hayes for the Rings of Saturn, with McDonagh breaking up the hold only to end up in it himself. Axiom would break McDonagh free, before almost being tapped out.
With a minute left, Hayes would hit Nothing But Net – only to be pulled from the ring with Waller stealing the pinfall. Hayes would just play defense, running the clock out to win the match.
