Mathew Knowles, who is the father of Beyonce, has come to her defense amid criticism she is receiving from the LGBTQ+ community for her performance in Dubai.
Beyonce’s Father Defends Her Dubai Concert Amid Criticism From The LGBTQ+ Community
On Saturday, 21st January 2023, the artist sang an exclusive song to celebrate the opening of the Royal Atlantis Hotel. According to reports, a sum of $24million (£19m) was offered to the vocalist for the special show.
During the Dubai performance, Beyonce sang primarily slow songs from recent times like Spirit and Bigger. In one of the most touching moments, her 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy joined her on stage and did a choreography to Brown Skin Girl.
Despite her unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community, and her album Renaissance being an homage to Black queer culture, Beyonce has been criticised for performing in Dubai, where same-sex relationships are illegal.
One such user went on to state the following: “Are you all forgetting that Dubai is one of the most homophonic [sic] places in the world.”
Mathew has now commented on the uproar caused by the Dubai concert and asserted that his daughter has always been devoted to embracing everyone and wouldn’t have meant to hurt anyone.
According to TMZ, this is what Mathew had to say: “Queen Bey united a really diverse crowd with her incredible performance overseas, bringing people closer, as she does best. She’d never do something to deliberately hurt someone.
The fans on social media made their position clear. A certain subset of people were of the view that the singer had ultimately been influenced by the huge amount of money offered, which could have swayed her decision.
One person wrote: “I am not mad at Beyonce for her Dubai performance at all. But please be honest about the motive. It was about money – not bringing people together.”
Regardless of what you may think about Beyonce’s decision, her performance went down well with the fan base, which will most likely be her priority.
