In March 2019, the head of a Wigan crime family was stabbed to death in a failed raid on the father of a customer who skipped on a debt for marijuana. The victim was originally arrested for murder but was later released when it was found that he was acting in self-defense.
Sentences Handed Down by Crown Court about the Robbery-Gone-Wrong Self-Defense Stabbing Death of UK-based Drug Boss Debbie Twist
Debbie Twist (47) ran a drug outfit in the Manchester area. At the top, her group involved her son Jordan Winstanley (28) and daughter Bethany Twist (22), Bethany’s partner Adam Guy (26), and Robbie Arnold (23). The victim was also a member of the ring but was now a target as he owed £120.
It should be mentioned that the move to collect the debt occurred after authorities dealt a blow to the Twist Family’s operations with a seizure. This opened the organization to further investigation and this raid on the father of the victim would make things worse.
Two days earlier, the victim had been shaken down by the Twist Family over the debt and beaten up. He agreed to pay the debt back on March 18 but on March 17 while out for drinks, the Twists opted to move on the victim after finding his father’s house.
On the night of March 18, 2019, Debbie Twist, Jordan Winstanley, and Robbie Arnold walked up to the residence with Winstanley and Arnold knocking on the door. When no one answered, the three broke into the house through a back window.
The victim was at the house and after he and his pregnant girlfriend were threatened with a gun, machete, and a hammer, he drew a knife and slashed at the invaders.
Debbie Twist was the closes and was stabbed in the chest by the victim. After arriving at the scene, emergency services rushed Twist to an area hospital where she died of her wounds.
The Defendants Ran Sad Stories and Road to Rehab Promises to Appeal for Leniency
During a trial into the Twist Family’s criminal activities, the command of the drug ring was sentenced for various offenses. The lawyer for the victim shared that his client deals with constant flashbacks to the incident and received juries from the failed raid.
Lawyers for the traffickers pleaded that their clients had turned over leaves and aimed for some degree of leniency. It was argued that while the incident was traumatizing for the victim—two of those standing trial lost their mother at the hands of the victim. Also, Bethany is pregnant with a second child with Guy.
Robbie Arnold avoided an aggravated burglary charge but was found guilty of possessing an imitation firearm during the attack. He also pleaded guilty to manufacturing and supplying cocaine as well as supplying marijuana. Arnold would receive five years behind bars.
Bethany Twist and her partner Adam Guy weren’t involved in the raid but were doing family business and selling marijuana at the time. They pleaded guilty to supplying marijuana and Guy was given six months suspended for 18 months.
He must also undergo a six-month drug rehab course and do 15 rehab requirement activity days. Finally, he has to perform 120 hours of community service.
Twist was hit the same six months suspended for 18 months sentence. She is required to do 70 hours of community service and 20 rehab requirement activity days. As for her brother, Winstanley was sentenced to six years and six months in prison. Before they were sent away to do their time, the siblings hugged.
