In Ontario, two men are slated to appear in a Crown Court on drug charges. The combined forces of the RCMP, the Brantford Police Service, and Canada Border Services launched an investigation into a drug smuggling operation dating back to a January 2022 seizure.
Two Ontario Men Scheduled for Court Following $198 MILLION Coke Bust from 2022
The involved agencies didn’t reveal the suspects’ names. They did reveal that three men were arrested at the time with the two from Brantford, Ontario being 35 and 47-years-old. The three were investigated after CBS found a container from Central America filled with roughly 1.5 tons of cocaine in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Border Services estimated the street value of the drugs to be about $198 million. Needless to say, that’s a hard amount to slip past customs by land, air, or sea. The tactic used here was to hide the drugs inside packaged machinery.
Since the year-long investigation allowed authorities to track the associated members and where the drugs would’ve gone, the trio is being charged drug trafficking and smuggling charges. In addition to the three Ontario men, six others were arrested in the raids but five were released without being charged.
