The Acclaimed seem to be on a collision course with their old rivals in The Gunns, but that title match is a story for another night. Tonight, The Acclaimed are simply looking to get back into the swing of things, after taking some time off after defending the AEW World Tag Team Championships twice in the same week against Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal. The Gunns will be watching very closely, and perhaps looking to truly stake their claim for AEW Revolution next month.
The Acclaimed Get Booked In A Title Defense By Billy Gunn
Caster would declare their opponents as The Bootleg Beverly Brothers, and their opponents apparently haven’t heard of scissoring. They’d figure it out, as the match began. Caster would hit the scoop slam before Bowens hit the Scissor Me Timbers leg drop to the groin. Billy Gunn hit the ring to scissor, before Bowens would hit The Arrival.
Mic Drop from Caster would end this match – because the champs don’t get paid by the hour. The Gunns hit the ring after the match, and would declare that they want an answer on if The Acclaimed are brave enough to defend against a team the calibre of The Gunns. Bowens would ask the crowd is The Ass Boys deserve a title shot – and they said no.
Billy Gunn would be sick of seeing the bickering, saying he’s too old for this shit, and if they want to beat each other up – go ahead. Austin Gunn would say that once again Billy has just turned his back on them, before saying he will go find his sorrows at the bottom of a pill bottle once again.
Gunn get into the ring and berate his sons – saying do they think they have what he had? They can prove it next week in a title match against The Acclaimed. Even The Acclaimed was caught off guard by this – but they’re fighting champions for a reason. They have one week to prepare, and while they’ve beaten the Gunns before – Austin & Colton are always improving.
Konosuke Takeshita & Brian Cage Go One On One
When Brian Cage & MJF would look to break the arm of Bryan Danielson, there was one man backstage unwilling to stand by and just let this happen. ‘The Japanese Sensation’ Konosuke Takeshita would rush the ring, ensuring the safety of Danielson in the process. Now tonight, Takeshita will go one on one with Cage in a first time ever clash – and the stage could be set for Takeshita to finally claim his first big AEW victory, and really get his 2023 moving.
Takeshita and Cage would trade heavy blows as this match began, with Takeshita hitting the leaping lariat to send Cage to the apron. Big boot would follow, sending Cage to the floor for the vaulting body press. Cage would be able to hit a powerbomb into the ring post, turning the match in his favour.
In the ring, Cage would look for another powerbomb – with Takeshita able to counter with a wrist lock. Cage was sent off the ropes for the Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count, before Takeshita would miss the jumping elbow smash – tumbling to the apron. He’d be brought in the hard way with a superplex, but Cage took time to taunt.
Takeshita Gets His First Big Victory In AEW
Takeshita would avoid the Pumphandle Slam, before being set up for the 619 from Cage. German Suplex would land on Takeshita, with him landing hard on his shoulder – getting Cage a two count. Takeshita would hit a big lariat in the ring before the Stalling German Suplex for a near fall. Liger Bomb would follow, but Takeshita just got another near fall.
Cage would hit the Backdrop Driver and Discuss Lariat – with Takeshita coming back with the Sheer Drop Brainbuster. A second would quickly follow, but Cage was able to kick out again. Cage would hit the F5 – and Prince Nana called for Cage to finish him. Takeshita would be taken into the corner, only for him to drop Cage with a superplex.
Running knee smash in the middle of the ring followed – and Takeshita would get the victory! This is his first high profile victory in AEW, and won’t be the last. Will Konosuke Takeshita look for a title shot soon? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
