With The Elite able to retain the AEW World Trios Championships against AR Fox & Top Flight – there’s now a slight scramble to figure out the next challengers ahead of AEW Revolution. Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta are looking to ensure that Blackpool Combat Club is next in line for a title shot. Meanwhile, Kip Sabian is looking to lead The Butcher & The Blade into their latest title chance – and beating BCC would put them in a great spot.
Blackpool Combat Club Shows Trio Dominance
Yuta would opt to kick things off with Sabian, being forced into the corner but the clean break was allowed. Sabian got a slap to the face as a result, before the Cobra Twist would be applied. Yuta was thrown to the ropes into a blind tag. Sabian threw Yuta from the ring, only to be hit with a press slam from Castagnoli.
Butcher would hit the ring alongside Castagnoli, the two heavy hitters trading strikes in the middle of the ring. Moxley got some quick strikes in, before Yuta got the tag – and was run down by Butcher. Sabian would take advantage and hit a Stunner, before the cannonball senton. Butcher & The Blade hit some tag team offence, keeping the pressure on Yuta.
Able to keep his cool, Yuta was able to set up and hit the missile dropkick out of the corner – and Moxley hit the ring. Sabian would miss the lariat and take a Backdrop Suplex, before ending up in the Kimura Lock. Moxley was able to move this into the Hammer & Anvil elbows, and while the referee checked on Sabian – Butcher & The Blade pulled him crotch first into the ring post.
Arabian Press would follow from Sabian, allowing his team to isolate Moxley in their corner with some quick tags and strikes. Moxley would be able to block a Superrana from the top rope with a powerbomb, and drop Butcher with a lariat. Castagnoli would run down Blade, hitting a running dropkick – before the Short Arm Lariat.
Giant Swing was stopped by Sabian, only for him to be spun into submission. Blade would try for a roll up, but ended up in the Sharpshooter. Butcher would break it up, but Moxley hit the Cutter. Alpamare Water Slide would follow, before the Swiss Death for the win.
Swerve Strickland Beats Down Dustin Rhodes, Ruby Soho Get Much Needed Win
Ruby Soho is stuck between a rock and a hard place in AEW. She’s not wanting to align with Saraya & Toni Storm in their crusade against the AEW originals on the roster – but also isn’t accepted by the AEW originals like Jamie Hayter & Britt Baker. Tonight, Soho looks to ignore all the noise as she faces Marina Shafir in singles action – as Shafir didn’t get the nickname “The Problem” for no reason.
Just before this match, we’d have Dustin Rhodes call out Swerve Strickland – saying that he’s coming for his blood and soul. Trench & Parker attacked, and beat him down in a warehouse. Swerve would say Rhodes has his match – set for next week.
Shafir would take Soho down to the mat with a side headlock, before going after the arm. Soho would roll to her feet after an arm drag, before hitting a lariat. Shafir hit some kicks to the leg before some quick knee strikes. Soho would take more kicks on the mat, as Shafir would look to break her down. Shafir would be caught with a Shoulder Capture Suplex, before blocking the No Future Kick.
A headbutt to the neck would fire Soho up for some more headbutts, before a knee to the face. Destination Unknown would follow – and Soho got the victory! After the match, Soho would be asked to pick her side. Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter would attack Saraya & Storm – as Soho simply watched.
