When it comes to modern legends in professional wrestling, few names are more controversial than Jeff Hardy. Breaking into the industry alongside his brother Matt Hardy, Jeff became one of the top tag team specialists of the Attitude Era, and would rise up to become WWE Champion. However, for all the great moments Jeff provided to wrestling fans – his issues with alcohol and drugs have put himself, his opponents and innocent people at risk. He would commit his third DUI in 2022 – and the court case was recently settled.
Jeff Hardy Has Licence Suspended For 10 Years
Volusia County Clerk of Circuit Court records would show that on February 23, the case against Jeff Hardy was closed and the verdict made. Hardy would sign a written plea to the crimes of drinking under the influence, and with a suspended licence. As a result, he spent 38 days in jail, will have his licence suspended for 10 years, paid a $4000 fine, and will serve 24 months of probation. In addition to this, he has to complete rehab and community service.
Considering the risks that driving under the influence can have, all of this is justified. Some would argue that with this being his third DUI, more time in jail should have been served. However, the punishment has been dealt – and Hardy will have to face the consequences of his actions.
Is His In-Ring Career Over?
When it comes to any potential of an in-ring return for Jeff Hardy, that ship has likely sailed at this point. Prior to the DUI, Matt & Jeff Hardy would sign deals set to expire at the same time – trying to end their career as a tag team. However, Jeff was already noticeably slipping in the ring, with the wear and tear on his body really showing in major ways.
There is next to no fan demand to see Hardy in the ring after this latest DUI. Any magic in the return of The Hardy Boyz was instantly killed, and Matt Hardy has moved on to working with Private Party & Ethan Page as his final full time contract continues. At most, we could see one final match as a tag team – but Jeff is only able to return to the ring after going through rehab and proving his ability to remain sober.
