While Alyssa Milano took to Twitter to express concern for Britney Spears after a year of the pop singer’s social media adventures, Spears viewed it as bullying and responded.
Britney Spears Accuses Alyssa Milano of Gaslighting Her In Asking for a Wellness Check – Milano Apologizes
The tweet which said “Someone please go check on Britney Spears” was made back in December 2022 and came after a rough year for the “Toxic” singer on social media. With the short window that she and her husband Sam Asghari announced that they were expecting a child and that they lost it, constant battles with her family, and her fans and followers being split being support and concern, 2022 was a year for Spears.
Add in that both women lose peers and contemporaries in the entertainment industry each year—some to mental battles—the concern had validity but Spears didn’t see it that way.
On January 31, days after she reactivated her Instagram, Britney Spears responded:
“It saddens me to see things about me from people who don’t know me!!! This definitely feels like a form of bullying!!! Ladies, we are supposed to be rooting for one another not pulling one another down!!!”
Spears originally deactivated her IG account after some negativity towards her social media postings towards the end of 2022. When she went dark, followers contacted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office which said that they were getting calls starting at around 11 PM on January 24, 2023. After checking up on Spears, they found that nothing was wrong and left.
Spears didn’t take kindly to fans calling the authorities to check on her and said that they weren’t “real fans.” She also feels that it was a move to make her look bad. In discussing the wellness check further, she said that she was being gaslit and bullied and that things became worse “once the incident made it to the news and being portrayed once again in a poor and unfair light by the media.”
Alyssa Milano would later apologize for questioning Spears’ welfare and said that she had regrets about doing so.
