We mentioned some macabre memorabilia earlier with some of British executioner Albert Pierrepoint’s belongings being put up. Now, the mansion where mobster Bugsy Siegel was murdered is up for auction for $16,995,000.
The Death Mansion Where Bugsy Siegel Was Murdered is Up for Auction at $17M
Built in 1928, the Beverly Hills mansion is being sold by Nourmand & Associates and features seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, high ceilings, a swimming pool, and a winding staircase among other features. However, it’s better associated with the being the location where Bugsy Siegel was shot and killed on June 20, 1947.
His death came roughly six months after he finished up the Flamingo Hotel, a foothold of power on the Vegas Strip for the “National Crime Syndicate” into the 1960s. His murderer was never found which only fueled speculation about why he was killed and who exactly ordered the hit at the mansion Siegel shared with his girlfriend.
The obvious answer is that Siegel had become a little rebellious since he was the main one pushing California and opted to pay his superiors when he felt like it. After he avoided prison time for murdering childhood friend and mobster Harry Greenberg in 1939, he laid low before trying to establish himself in Las Vegas.
It’s believed that it was Las Vegas that proved to be the final nail for Bugsy Siegel as even after the managed to turn the Flamingo into a profitable, legit establishment, his bosses were reportedly burned out on dealing with him and had him killed.
The Flamingo would go on to be a success for the mob while the house Bugsy Siegel has seen several owners and renovations over the years.
