Tomorrow at NJPW Battle In The Valley, we will see Impact Wrestling World Champion Josh Alexander in action. He is set to team with Mascara Dorada, Adrian Quest & Rocky Romero as they face KUSHIDA, Volador Jr, Kevin Knight & The DKC in eight man tag team action. However, while competing in the United States for NJPW is cool – Alexander has his eyes on bigger things, like the 2023 G1 Climax.
Josh Alexander Wants To Get Into The Ring In Japan Soon
While speaking with Liam O’Loughlin of Sporting News, Alexander would say that wrestling Japan for NJPW is a bucket list item for him. Alexander had the following to say.
“I don’t think I have made it a secret that the one thing that has alluded me in pro wrestling is to wrestle in Japan. It’s the one thing on my bucket list – the biggest goal I set for myself 10 years ago was that I just needed to get to Japan and it has alluded me left and right. For whatever reason, it has not happened yet but four years ago I never had a contract for a major company in pro wrestling and look what happened. I’ve never been someone to say it’s never gonna happen – I’m just that person that when it needs to happen, it will be at the very perfect time, just like me signing that contract with Impact Wrestling. Maybe this year’s G1, maybe next year – but I would embrace anything to be able to get over to Japan and get in front of that fanbase to show what I can do,”
Right now, it would be hard for Alexander to leave Impact Wrestling for long enough to make a trip to Japan – given his status as their top champion. He’s set to defend the Impact Wrestling World Championship against former champion Rich Swann at No Surrender, with Alexander keen on keeping his 300+ day reign intact. Alexander would be a perfect fit in a tournament like the G1 Climax – and we’ve seen Impact Wrestling represented in recent NJPW tournaments, with Chris Bey & Ace Austin in Super Junior Tag League.
