A transgender man was included in Taylor Swift’s new music video, as he courted her in a romantic relationship.

The song entitled, Lavender Haze, includes transgender male model Laith Ashley as her romantic companion. They can be seen lying in bed together before Swift reveals a night sky painted on Ashley’s bare back.
Afterwards, the trans model is seen enjoying a cozy moment with the 11-time Grammy winner at a gathering. The video has already gone viral, as Ashley was delighted at having been given the opportunity to work with her.
In her comments, she said: “Thank you [Taylor Swift] for allowing me to play a small part in your story. You are brilliant and this is an experience I will never forget. It was truly magical.”
This generated a lot of talking points for the following reasons. First of all, Taylor had been criticized in the past on the basis that her music was not inclusive enough. She had been branded with claims that her music resonated with a white-republican section of society.
Secondly, this showed that Taylor was going to continue along this line given that she had previously directed her other music video, You Need to Calm Down.’
This focused on the LGBTQ community amid the Equality Act’s aim of stopping any forms of discrimination. The fans on social media, though, began to troll Taylor and make a running joke out of it.
This was on the basis that her real love life had been characterised by numerous failed relationships. One person wrote: “Oh, well. I guess dating real men hasn’t worked out for her, so.”
While another person stated: “She’s doing it for album sales…PERIOD.” It is fair to say that Taylor’s response has had a varying response, but based on her track record, she will continue to do what she thinks is best regardless of what others might say.
