In Travis County, Texas, a woman who killed her friend and tried to pass off her newborn baby as her own was sentenced to 55 years behind bars. The murder and kidnapping occurred in December 2019 when Magen Fieramusca (37) killed 33-year-old Heidi Broussard and made off with her infant.

Broussard and the baby were filed as missing after being kidnapped from her Austin home. The search was underway and authorities followed the trail to Houston and the home of Magen Fieramusca. There they found Broussard’s infant daughter with her childhood friend who pretended that she was the child’s mother.
Heidi Broussard was found in the trunk of Fieramusca’s car. The lawyers for Fieramusca tried to argue that any evidence involved in the murder that was taken from their client’s house was taken illegally by authorities. In May 2022, a judge tossed out Fieramusca’s strongest bid to have said evidence dropped from the case.
Facing kidnapping and capital murder charges, Magen Fieramusca pleaded guilty to the charges and was given 55 years. As one of the terms of the deal, Fieramusca waived her right to appeal.
Travis County DA Jose Garza said of the sentencing:
“This outcome will save the families from having to endure the difficult post-conviction litigation process. We are grateful to our prosecutors and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly on this case and secured justice for the victim’s families and our community.”
