At the recent AEW House Rules event, fans would see Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin defeat The Butcher & The Blade in tag team action – and tonight, fans around the world get to see a similar match on Dynamite.
Joining Cassidy & Allin is ‘The Icon’ Sting, with Kip Sabian joining the hired mercenaries of Butcher & The Blade for a big time trios showcase.
With House of Black looking for their next challengers – and Allin & Sting having a win over them, this could determine their next title defence. Sting has yet to wrestle in 2023, but is undefeated in AEW.
Young Bucks Taken To Hospital As Show Begins
Before this show even got started – The Young Bucks were brutally attacked – with Hangman Page driving out of the arena with his old friends.
Kenny Omega would have went, but is set for a huge match later tonight. Commentary had no real clue on what was happening – with more details hopefully coming throughout the night.
Sabian would kick things off with Cassidy, avoiding the Orange Punch before ending up in a headlock. Cassidy was sent from the ring, with Sabian teasing a dive but instead taking time to taunt.
Sabian would be unable to get into the head of Cassidy, and instead tagged in Butcher. Sting would meet him in the ring, the powerhouses of the respective teams.
Butcher would throw some strikes at Sting to test his balance – only for The Icon to show no pain. Sting would be driven into the corner, but avoided a splash – hitting the Stinger Splash himself.
Scorpion Deathlock was blocked by a three on one attack, with Butcher & The Blade taking a double suplex before Sabian looked for a dive. Sting took inspiration from Cassidy, rolling away slowly into a tag to Allin.
Sting Is Still The Icon In 2023 – Darby Allin Wants To Be AEW World Champion
Code Red would get a near fall on Sabian, with Blade helping Sabian regain control. Allin would be isolated by Butcher & The Blade – with Blade getting a two count off a tight snap powerslam.
Butcher would apply the Texas Cloverleaf, shouting “I’m gonna break his f*cking back” as he put the pressure on. Allin nearly slipped free, but was ripped off the mat and nailed with a powerbomb.
Sabian would get the tag, but lost control of Allin – who got the tag to Cassidy. Diving crossbody was followed by a Swinging DDT, with Butcher running Cassidy down with a lariat and Drag The Lake – getting Sabian a near fall.
Sting got the tag, hitting the Cassidy low kicks, before a brutal lariat. Scorpion Death Lock was applied, and it took Butcher & The Blade to break Sabian free.
Allin would save his mentor and hit a double Coffin Splash on Butcher & The Blade, before Sabian hit a pop up knee. Cassidy hit the Stundog Millionaire.
Allin hit a second Stunner, and Sting ended things with the Scorpion Death Drop. That’s Sting’s first win in 2023 – and unlikely to be his last. After the match, Sting would stare at the sign for Double Or Nothing – where he hopes to face MJF for the AEW World Championship.
