When it comes to legends in professional wrestling, you don’t get more iconic than the likes of Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. The master of the DDT and mind games has been around in the industry for decades now, mixing it up with the likes of Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. He’s also been someone who very publicly struggled with drug and alcohol abuse – and has been winning that battle over the past decade.
Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts Has Stayed Clean For 11 Years Now
While appearing on Talk is Jericho with Chris Jericho, Jake Roberts would be able to take a moment to reflect on his time in AEW – and how it’s kept him motivated to stay clean. Roberts would have the following to say- while also revealing the original length of his AEW contract.
“I am so fortunate that I worked hard to get sober, real hard, and it took several years to do it. But, I’ve been clean now for 11 years, and AEW has been so kind to me, been so good to me, and it’s like I get to live again, man. Hopefully, I will be here for a little while. Originally I came in for 10 days, for 10 shots, that was the deal. Then they asked me to stay for a year, which I was surprised. I don’t know about you man, but I don’t value myself high.”
Managing Lance Archer & Passing On Knowledge To Rising Stars
Right now, fans can find Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts on AEW programming. He’s been the manager of Lance Archer for the past couple of years, and also serves as a backstage mentor to younger talents. This has kept him on the road and involved in the industry, and has even let him hit a few signature short arm lariats along the way.
Roberts remains one of the best talkers in the history of professional wrestling, and is hopefully teaching the younger names of AEW that sometimes it’s the quiet speakers who get the most ears.
