When it comes to female stars in the history of WWE, a few from the diva’s era have continued to shine. Making her name during the Attitude Era as part of Team Extreme, Lita quickly captured the hearts of fans.
Her punk styled look and daredevil style made her a fan favourite for years – all the way until her retirement in 2006. Since then, Lita has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and would make a return to the ring. Her last match on record was at WrestleMania 39 in a six woman tag – and she’s viewing any future matches as ‘bonus time’ in the ring.
Since Facing Becky Lynch, She’s Been On Bonus Time
While speaking with Graham GSM Matthews of Bleacher Report, Lita would be asked if she has had her proper retirement match yet – and she’d respond that since her match with Becky Lynch in Saudi Arabia, she’s been on bonus time. Lita had the following to say.
“I really felt that my match with Becky in Saudi Arabia felt like a really nice retirement match that I did not anticipate having that opportunity. I felt really satisfied with the whole full circle moment of that, paving the way for women on the front end in the United States, going to when the relationship was established in Saudi Arabia, women weren’t allowed to come to the matches and then there were no women performing to a featured match where Becky and I were all over billboards all over the kingdom. It felt really poetic and I felt happy with that match. I feel good with that. This just feel like bonus time.”
Lita Would Love To Test Herself Against Rhea Ripley
When Matthews brought up a potential match with Rhea Ripley – Lita would express interest in facing the Smackdown Women’s Champion.
“She’s an incredible talent. I would love to work with her because it would really push me. It would push me beyond my comfort zone and I feel like I’ve been satisfied with what I’ve done in this chapter, but I would love to see how far I could take it.”
Ripley has a similar appeal to what Lita had in the 90’s and 2000’s – changing what the traditional view of a women’s wrestling star in WWE is with each match.
