AEW Collision is weeks away and it promises to shake up the company’s current schedule. The perfect schedule can really keep a roster on board when it comes to wrestling.
Impact Wrestling has always had the distinction of having a light schedule due to few house shows and taping Impact and other shows in its almost 21-year history. Meanwhile, WWE is known for its grueling road schedule.
Concerns Arise in AEW with House Shows Being Added to the Schedule as ‘Collision’ Could Shake Up the Schedule
AEW is another promotion that was at the Impact end of the schedule scale. The Jacksonville-based promotion had its big events, supplemental TV specials, and of course its weekly content. Now, AEW Dynamite typically airs live with the Dark shows being taped.
With Dark and Dark elevation being axed, it appears that there will be other plans for giving emerging talent air time. As for the major shows, AEW recently announced Saturday Collision as its second two-hour program after a couple of weeks of speculation. Well, speculation and fantasy booking as to how many of us would handle things in Tony Khan’s position.
Collision has been the topic of a lot of discussion centered around the nature of the brand split as well as CM Punk’s return to the company.
Now, both are exclusive considering the climate of the locker room following the infamous Punk-Elite altercation. It’s rare that backstage alliances are made so public in wrestling when it used to be purely second-hand and confirmed in shoot interviews.
With two prime time shows running for two-hours each and the size of its roster demanding a brand split of some sort. This also comes with the need to run house shows and with it comes the concerns.
According to PW Torch’s Wade Keller, there have been grumblings from talent about the extra time on the road because of Collision.
An unnamed wrestler even told Keller that “working two TVs per week” wasn’t in the cards when AEW CEO Tony Khan signed them. It could all depend on how the schedule looks exactly or if Khan even sticks with the house show approach if ticket sales aren’t strong enough to warrant the expense.
The current plan is for AEW Collision to be live on most Saturdays and presented as an A-show comparable to Dynamite. Put on your fantasy booker hat and let us know how you believe the house shows should be done as far as cities to run.
