FTR risked everything to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships from The Gunns – and became two time champions in the process. Since then, they have found their first challengers with both Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler losing singles matches to Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal.
Jarrett & Lethal have called for a title shot at Double Or Nothing 2023, and tonight, FTR have a chance to respond to his challenge. They’re not known to turn down any challenge, so it’s just a matter if they view Jarrett & Lethal as worthy challengers for a PPV event.
Mark Briscoe To Keep The Peace At Double Or Nothing In AEW World Tag Team Championship Match
Harwood would waste no time getting started – quickly calling Mark Briscoe to the ring, wanting to apologise for recent misunderstandings.
Instead, the music of Jarrett would hit – with Lethal, Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh following. Dutt would say that FTR has one job tonight, and that’s to accept the challenge for Double or Nothing in Las Vegas.
FTR would ask the crowd, who agreed that no one wants this match. They’ll accept the match, if Jarrett & Lethal admit to manipulating Briscoe to get to FTR. Briscoe would come to the ring to clear things up.
Everyone here has issues controlling their emotions around each other, so Briscoe went to Tony Khan – and at Double or Nothing, it will be FTR vs. Jarrett & Lethal with special guest referee Mark Briscoe.
Briscoe had some wine, and would share it around – only for Lethal to spit it into the eyes of Harwood. Blinded and fighting on instinct, he’d hit Briscoe with a piledriver – another well made play by Lethal & Jarrett heading into the PPV.
Roderick Strong Is One Step Ahead Of Chris Jericho, Thunder Rosa Returns
Backstage, we’d catch up with Chris Jericho – who has a restraining order against Adam Cole after his cowardly attack last week. Roderick Strong would stand up for Cole, and challenged Jericho to a Falls Count Anywhere match next week on Dynamite. Jericho reminded Strong he has the J.A.S – but Strong was one step ahead, already having them banned from the venue.
Earlier in the show, Miro would enter the office of Tony Khan. Renee Paquette has been standing outside waiting to get a word to update everyone – but instead, was met by another returning star.
Former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa would return, and entered Khan’s office. Rosa has been out of action since All Out 2022, and was forced to vacate her championship due to injury.
Tony Khan would appear on TV – calling this one of the biggest Dynamite’s history. He would say that there is a huge announcement coming next week.
Simply put – the roster is getting too big for one show, and with rumours of a two hour Saturday Night show incoming – they could be confirmed very soon.
Orange Cassidy Is Far From 100% At This Point Of His Reign
Orange Cassidy has been one of the most dominant champions in AEW history. When he won the AEW International Championship from PAC, it was still the All-Atlantic Championship, and he’s recently passed some milestones, making his 20th title defense against Bandido and 100th AEW win over the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Tonight, Daniel Garcia of the J.A.S looks for revenge, as he faces Cassidy one on one with the International Championship on the line.
Garcia would quickly find himself on the mat as this match began, Cassidy showing his technical wrestling skills. Garcia was able to gain control, but wasted time dancing – allowing Cassidy to take him back to the mat and into an arm lock. Cassidy would be countered, but used his sloth tactics to outsmart Garcia.
Garcia would show his aggressive side as this match spilled to the floor, hitting a backdrop onto the apron before applying a Bow & Arrow Lock in the middle of the ring. Cassidy was able to flop into a pinfall as a counter, only getting a one count.
Garcia would stomp Cassidy into the ring using the ropes as balance, before looking for the Dragon Tamer – instead setting up a Super Dragon style Curb Stomp – fitting from the PWG World Champion.
Cassidy would head to the top rope as he found his feet, getting caught with Garcia looking for a superplex. Garcia would be fought off with some clubbing blows, but attacked the injured hand of Cassidy before hitting a superplex. He’d try to float right into a Falcon Arrow after impact, with Cassidy hitting the Stundog Millionaire.
Living To Reign Another Day
Garcia would go after the leg of Cassidy with a Dragon Screw, before trying for the Dragon Tamer. Cassidy would shove Garcia off, before hitting some stiff forearm smashes – only to take a kick to the kneecap. A dirty move but a legal one, Cassidy was down and had his hands stomped next.
Garica would try to shove the hands of Cassidy in the pockets, briefly losing the advantage. A basement dropkick would regain control, before a Jumping Piledriver for a two count.
Cassidy would get an inside cradle for a near fall, before hitting Beach Break. Unable to get the pinfall, Cassidy would be taken into the Dragon Tamer – using a fish hook to the mouth to escape.
Cassidy would be taken into a crossface shortly after, with Garcia stomping the hand. This loosened the grip of the hold, allowing Cassidy to roll into an inside cradle – and once again slipped away with his reign still intact.
