Since the start of AEW, Sammy Guevara has been showing improvements – pushing towards a clear gold. He wants to be the AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Being the protege of Chris Jericho, and a three time TNT Champion was not enough.
He lost his chance for a one on one title match with MJF at Double or Nothing, but will still be involved in a Fatal Four Way. Tonight, Guevara is in action in his home state ahead of that match – and is ready to claim a big win.
Sammy Guevara Gets Heroes Welcome In Texas
With his opponent as Exodus Prime, Guevara had a major skill advantage. Prime threw two wild punches, with Guevara ducking both. Jumping knee smash and GTH would follow – and Guevara made quick work of this match. With TV time to spare, Guevara had time for a promo, and requested a microphone.
Guevara would reminisce about the struggles and triumphs he experienced on the Texas indy scene. Everything he did in this state built up to who he is at this stage of his career. All his failures and successes led him to the biggest match of his career, to Las Vegas. At AEW Double or Nothing – Guevara will listen to his heart, and it will guide him to his first AEW World Championship.
Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal Get Some Aid Laying Out FTR
At Double Or Nothing 2023, FTR will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal are their opponents, with Mark Briscoe as a special guest referee. An interview was set for the challengers, but FTR attacked first. Satnam Signh was shoved off the stage and through two tables, allowing Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler to focus on Lethal & Jarrett in a wild brawl.
Harwood would strip Lethal down, tearing his pants while Wheeler bashed Jarrett into the steel steps. Jarrett was set up for the Shatter Machine, only for Karen Jarrett to hit the ring and nail a low blow on Wheeler. Harwood would take The Stroke, before Satnam Signh recovered and nailed a double chokeslam.
Lethal & Jarrett would arm themselves with matching guitars, and bashed them over the heads of FTR. Karen handed them the belts, and they held them high for the world to see. Depending how things go at Double Or Nothing – this could become reality.
The Outcasts Once Again Use Numbers Edge
For months now, the AEW originals have been feuding with The Outcasts, to little success. The Outcasts were simply better organised from the start, and once Saraya & Toni Storm successfully recruited Ruby Soho – had a numbers edge.
Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter have done their best, but it was the addition of Hikaru Shida that put them to the next level. Tonight, former rivals Baker & Shida come together to face Soho & Storm – as an attack from The Outcasts prevented a trios match here tonight.
Soho & Storm would jump Shida & Baker before the bell, with Soho driving Shida face first into the corner with Deadly Nightshade. Storm attempted a running hip attack, but Shida instead threw Storm into Soho before hitting a Missile Dropkick. Soho would block a suplex before a knee strike to the jaw sent her stumbling into a tag.
Shida would hit a stiff strike to Storm before a tag to Baker led to a swinging neckbreaker. Saraya would drag Baker to the apron as Shida accidentally took the attention of the referee, before a hip attack sent Baker to the floor. Storm would drive Baker into the barricade, before The Outcasts would isolate her in their corner of the ring.
Britt Baker Takes A Cheap Shot At A Bad Time
Baker would fight to break across the ring to get Shida back into the match after taking a beating. Shida would batter Soho with forearm smashes, before a running back elbow dropped her. Storm & Saraya tried to stop Shida, but took stiff strikes and were gathered at ringside for a diving crossbody.
Powerdrive Knee would land in the ring, getting a near fall on Soho. Storm would take a Question Mark Kick, before Soho was dropped with the Falcon Arrow. Baker would catch Soho with a neckbreaker before looking for Lockjaw. Soho countered with a roll up before the No Future Kick.
Storm got the tag and looked for the Piledriver, only to instead take the Air Raid Crash. Saraya would distract the referee as Storm used a spray paint can as a weapon, cracking Baker across the face – allowing her to claim the victory with a pinfall.
