On a recent episode of “The Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T talked about AEW and specifically how Tony Kahn should consider taking a step back.
Booker knows the business, and with news of AEW doing a possible brand split of their own with AEW: Collision on Saturdays with CM Punk expected to be the top talent, he shared his thoughts on everything Tony Kahn is taking on.
Booker T things Tony Kahn Should Take a Step Back
To be fair, one needs a lot of energy and passion to successfully run a wrestling company, as attested to the fact that Vince McMahon said he only sleeps four hours a night and that he thought his daughter, Stephanie, would replace him at the top due to her enormously high energy level.
Tony Kahn is another high energy individual, and it’s been reported that he’s all over backstage at AEW events encouraging the talent and taking care of whatever needs to be done.

Slow it down
As if running four wrestling shows and the second largest wrestling company in the United States weren’t enough, he also helps run the NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars and the Premier League Football Team Fulham.
That’s more than a lot to manage, and Booker T explained why he thinks Tony should slow down and take a step back.
“I would make sure I was viewing this thing from the perspective where I could see everything going on and make sure I manage that thing properly. Sometimes that means you’ve got to take a step back to take a step forward.”
Booker continued, saying he thinks Tony should find someone he trusts to help run things.
“It’s so hard for Tony Khan to do the business side, the production side, the writing, and if he’s doing all of that, that’s why I say take a step back to take a step forward. Make sure you get the right people around you doing that and trust them, more importantly than anything. But you’ve got to have the right people to trust.”
Booker knows his stuff and runs his own wrestling company. He was also part of WCW during its glory days during the Monday Night Wars and then the fall of the company, and his advice could be words of warning as to what could happen.
Help incoming
It looks like either Tony is listening to Booker or already planning to bring in more help as it’s been reported that he’s hired Will Washington from Fightful Select to help with the creative process.
With a place in the hierarchy, so to speak, he’s shared what he’s experienced following his first meeting.
It’s helped to open the doors as Dave Meltzer explained on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Tony outlines the shows as the booker, with QT Marshall and Sonjay Dutt are two key helpers.
Pat Buck, Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels, Dean Malenko, and Washington were also at the meeting to give input. Stars like the Young Bucks, Chris Jericho, MJF, Jon Moxley, and so on also have input into their matches and storylines.
