Vince McMahon is many things, and genius is one of them. He’s done more for professional wrestling in the last forty years than anyone as he’s taken it to new heights.
However, his skill seemed to be more along the lines of seeing the overall picture than the creative direction he took the WWE.
It’s been mentioned time and again that Vince’s strength is in the presentation, and from the earlies time since he took over the WWE he put the most effort into the television production side of things.
The results was a more refined, better looking product on television than the other companies had, and he started taking their air time by sending his tapes to the various networks.
WWE’s production was unmatched, and it led to him getting more TV deals, which allowed him to raid the various companies for their top talent.

The bigger picture
Pro wrestling is a copy cat business, so it’s no surprise the WWE borrowed from other companies as well as they borrowed from them.
What makes this really interesting is how Vince did what he later cried foul of when Eric Bischoff and WCW did the same to him.
It makes Bischoff’s recent comments strike home a bit with the knowledge of how the WWE came into power.
On a recent episode of his podcast “83 Weeks”, Bischoff praised Vince’s ability to see the bigger picture while also sharing his thoughts on Vince’s creative mindset.
Special thanks to wrestlinginc.com for the transcript.
“I don’t think Vince McMahon is nearly as creative as he had the reputation of being at that time. I think Vince McMahon’s brilliance, and I do think he’s brilliant by the way, is not so much in his creative as in his overall vision, instinct for branding and promotion. I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody that comes close to Vince McMahon in that regard. Creatively speaking, not so much.
“Doesn’t mean he didn’t have some great ideas, he had some s**t bombs too as we all have. But I think Vince ended up with the reputation for being a creative genius, that was the term you’d hear a lot from talent, ‘Oh he’s a creative genius,’ he’s more of a business and strategic genius than he was a creative one in my opinion.”
This is something fans have been noticing for several years as the WWE has been as creatively fun as watching paint dry, and we got a glimpse of what it could be when Vince retired amidst accusations over the summer.
But when he forced his way back into the WWE and took over Raw after WrestleMania to the point is was close to being a chaotic dumpster fire from a storytelling aspect, it got fans to voice their frustration over his creative skills on social media with #firevincemcmahon trending for about a week.
What do you think? Is Bischoff right and Vince if better and the bigger picture like branding? Let us know in the comments below.
