The world and dynamic of professional wrestling shifted when Vince McMahon retired from the WWE.
His vision built the WWE into a world wide phenomena, but things change and now Triple H is in charge of WWE Creative and he’s changing the culture backstage.
Eric Bischoff Returning to WWE Because VINCE MCMAHON IS GONE?
He wants it to be fun to come to work, and the shift has many fans excited as wrestlers that were released or disenfranchised have been returning and finding new life.
This has fans wondering and hoping to see some of our favorites from years past return in some form, and one of those many would like to see return is Eric Bischoff.
Turning the Titanic around
Bischoff was the only promoter to push Vince to the brink of failure when he ran WCW, and after Vince bought WCW in 2001 he worked for the WWE.
Bischoff’s last stint in the company was in 2019 when he was Executive Producer of Smackdown, but after a slight tweak in his first episode it went back to normal and he left the company four months later.
Since then he’s appeared in AEW, but he’s mainly been keeping busy with his podcast 83 Weeks.
He recently appeared on SHAK Wrestling where he talked about various topics like hitting rock bottom, AEW, and possibly returning to the WWE now that Vince is no longer running the show.
He’s hopeful for the future, but at the moment he doesn’t want to as there’s no place for him. But things could change.
“No, because there’s no need for me. What I have to contribute at this point is — we’re beginning to see on television. Maybe this is just me being so hyper-optimistic because the last 10 years of wrestling has bored the F— outta me. I want to be excited about it. I want to be interested, I talked about it. I’ve been in the business for 35 years. Damn, I want to be excited about the business. But it’s just bored me to death for such a long time.
“I had a little bit of hope with AEW. I had some hope there. I thought, ‘Oh, man,’ I mean, up until probably six months ago, or eight months ago, I kind of threw in the towel, because I started seeing the same pattern of whatever over and over again.
“I’d go, ‘Okay, something different, something different.’ But there’s been nothing different out of WWE either. I’ve been pretty critical of WWE as well. I make more headlines when I’m critical of AEW, but I’m actually just as critical of WWE. But now I’m seeing that, and maybe just because I’m getting a little bit of an indication that something really good is coming, I’m overly excited. But if I’m right, then what the hell would I have to contribute? But they don’t need me.”
We have to admit we agree with him about wrestling being boring more than not the last few years, and that’s been the biggest complaint from may fans and former wrestlers and promoters.
But as he said, there’s signs of change coming and a large part of that is it’s been said Triple H looks at booking as a wrestling fan, and it’ll take time but there are signs things are turning around.
