One of the expected AEW signings could finally happen as John Hennigan—also known as Johnny Mundo, Johnny Caballero, Johnny Blackcraft, Johnny Impact, John Morrison, and Johnny Nitro—could join the company as a full-time talent.
Is Johnny Elite Returning with Rumors of MLW and AAA Star John Hennigan Joining AEW
More associated with his two runs with WWE where he won the ECW Championship, the IC title, and several Tag Team titles as well as his time with Lucha Underground and AAA, Hennigan remained busy in the industry never logging a lull in activity.
This has seen him continue to improve and sharpen his style and becoming something of a free agent-version of prime Rob Van Dam. Sure, he’s had several runs with companies that last a couple of years but that time has seen him become and maintain a name in the U.S and Mexico.
When he first began working with AEW, it was in May 2022 for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. He would fall to Samoa Joe in the competition and two more matches with the company followed. Since that time, he returned to IMPACT Wrestling and AAA and began wrestling for MLW.
According to PWInsider, John Hennigan recently appeared at the tapings for AEW Rampage and seems to be involved with a storyline between The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass and QT Marshall’s faction. Also surprising is that AEW might not run with the obvious Johnny Elite name and could go with Johnny Television or Johnny TV.
Hennigan always seemed like a good fit for the AEW and honestly should’ve been an early signing. He had just enough star power from being in WWE that he could be marketed and pushed but not so much that he would eclipse talent early. He could be booked organically along with Omega, Jericho, the Young Bucks, Page, PAC, Cody Rhodes, etc in the main event spot or as a floater/gatekeeper.
Not only that but he has the athleticism to do AEW’s physical, faster-paced style with heavyweights or junior heavyweights.
I don’t how to feel about that name change but what do you think? Are you on board with John Hennigan in AEW and what do you think of the name change? As always: let know down below!
