If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a viral video of a fan attending AEW Double or Nothing 2023 while watching NXT Battleground which ran that same night. The video was shared on Twitter and amplified after it was referenced on Battleground in a locker room segment.
Video of Fan Watching NXT Battleground During AEW Double or Nothing Goes Viral and Continues Fan Wars
As expected, the video has led to more back and forths between AEW fans and WWE fans on Twitter. This is in addition to whatever criticism was made about the show itself. Audience attendance is a major battleground in these disputes as evidenced by AEW’s Collision in Canada tour.
You had the AEW fans who were optimistic about the sales improving and others who just didn’t or chose not to see an issue with sales. There were also those who understood how ticket sales tend to go. Then you had the anti-AEW wing of WWE fans who just bombed threads.
Depending on the thread, it could get gnarly with the name-calling but it was varying degrees of “But this venue holds over 10,000.” It’s indisputable that some of the event setups for these venues are noticeably smaller than the max. For the resources and talent that AEW has, this doesn’t look good. Then again, WWE does the same and have had its low thousands runs.
This is where the backed out sections photos are circulated to show how bad it was attendance-wise. The fan trying to catch the other show while attending the other is a non-issue that has already been used to roast the AEW ops.

In reality, it’s no different than flipping between WCW Nitro and WWE RAW during the late 90s. The main difference is that it’s a live show and they actually have the means to view both live. Other than that, this isn’t a one-of-many indictment on AEW’s product. It also isn’t a thumbs up for NXT’s show.
If anything, this could just be a fan who got a ticket and is just there or a fan who loves wrestling regardless of the brand or product.
