After a year away from the ring, Scorpio Sky is back – and claims to be better than ever. Sky recently noted that reaching AEW had put him in cruise control, having made his big break – and wasn’t giving 100% as a result.
Now as the AEW roster grows, Sky recognizes that it’s time to show his skills – and show everyone who the true Scorpio Sky is. This starts tonight, as Sky faces a hungry young name in the form of Action Andretti.
Having made an instant impact in AEW by defeating Jericho, Andretti has shown potential – and could well surpass Sky in time.
Scorpio Sky Came Ready To Fight
Sky would quickly be met by the speed of Andretti, but was able to pick the ankle as Andretti ran the ropes. A side headlock would be applied, but Andretti was able to slip free and hit a quick arm drag. Sky would keep his grounded approach to the match, applying a chinlock before being driven into the corner.
Andretti would take a big backbreaker, done in a Bret Hart style. Seeing how effective this was, Sky would hit a second one – getting a two count. Andretti managed a Spanish Fly in the middle of the ring – getting a near fall. TKO would be set up by Sky, and blocked into a Crucifix pinfall for a two count.
Sky would ensure the cutter landed on the second go – ensuring his return was successful. Sky looked impressive here tonight, and could be a strong contender for AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy in the coming weeks. He’s already a decorated champion, holding the TNT & Tag Team Championships, and is perhaps better than ever now.
CM Punk Has Never Defeated Samoa Joe
Over his career, CM Punk has accomplished many things – but has never been able to defeat Samoa Joe. Their trilogy of matches defined a generation of Ring of Honor, and now almost twenty years later, the next chapter is ready to be written. When both Punk & Joe were placed on the same side of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup bracket, fans got excited.
Punk won his first round match over Satoshi Kojima, while Joe crushed Roderick Strong. Now, Punk has a chance to show just how far he’s come as a professional wrestler, as he once again locks up with Joe in a high stakes singles match.
Punk would throw a kick as this match began, with Joe ducking and forcing Punk into the corner. A big chop would follow, with Punk being the one to dodge at this point. Punk would apply a side headlock, but would again find himself in the corner. Again, he was quick on his feet with a dodge before some quick strikes on Joe.
Joe would be ready for the springboard dive from Punk, casually stepping aside – letting the ring punish Punk for his mistake. A brutal chop across the back of the neck would land, before a second chop to the chest. Joe would look to follow up with the Boot Wash in the corner – but was stopped. Punk would be placed on the top rope shortly after – and sent tumbling to the floor with a stiff chop.
CM Punk Finally Topples Samoa Joe In Epic Main Event
Punk would show signs of life on the floor, and Joe would head out and batter him with some more quick strikes. Joe would find himself on the receiving end of some strikes, before Punk climbed onto the apron and jumped off with a knee strike to the side of the head. Back into the ring, Punk would end up on the mat from another strike from Joe, before a tight neck crank.
Joe would release Punk for the jumping knee drop, giving Punk an opening – hitting a dropkick before the rising knee in the corner. Punk would try to follow up with the running bulldog, only for Joe to apply the Rear Naked Choke. Joe would not be able to fully lock the choke in, before being dropped on the back of his head with a backdrop driver.
Punk would hit a second rising knee in the corner, quickly following up with a third and a fourth. Short Arm Lariat would follow, before Punk opted to go to the top rope for the diving elbow drop. Punk would miss the elbow drop, but looked to end things with the Go To Sleep. Joe would be able to shift his weight, and grounded Punk for the crossface.
Punk would find the bottom rope, saving the match before being dropped with a snap powerslam. Joe would be dropped with a roundhouse kick, and Punk tried for the elbow drop again – almost falling victim to the Muscle Buster. Punk would fight free, and blocked the chokehold into a roll up – pinning Joe, and putting their record to 1-3. Punk now moves to the finals – where he faces Ricky Starks.
