FTR were unable to defeat Jay White & Juice Robinson last week in a Championship Eliminator match – and now needs to put their belts on the line.
White & Robinson aren’t just looking to claim gold, but prove they are without a doubt the best tag team in the world – so have challenged FTR to their specialty match.
It’s a best two out of three falls match, which is arguably the best way to decide a match of this scale. FTR have the advantage of experience, but White & Robinson have quickly gelled as a team.
FTR Settle In For A Long Night With The Bang Bang Gang
All four men would start this match with an argument, not being able to find out who starts this match. Harwood would eventually start with White, with both men taking trips to ringside – playing the mental game tonight before things get physical.
White would end up in a headlock, and shoved Harwood off before taking a shoulder tackle – and ending up in a Small Package for an early two count.
Harwood would be sent to the mat with a hip toss and arm drag, before Robinson got the tag alongside Wheeler. Robinson would drive Wheeler into the corner and hit a shoulder tackle, before a Backslide got Wheeler a two count.
Wheeler would pick up some speed as he hit the ropes, and sent Robinson tumbling to the floor with a stiff shoulder tackle.
FTR would get a double team attack, with a drop toehold into an elbow drop. Harwood looked to throw chops in the corner, but Robinson dodged and ducked out of the ring – taking a breather.
White would get the tag and drove Wheeler off the apron with a forearm smash, before fleeing the ring – and returning in to get Harwood with down to the mat with a headlock.
Harwood would trip White up and punch him in the ribs, before a fast Russian Leg Sweep for a two count. Cobra Twist would be applied, and Harwood would take a page out of the book of BCG – using the top rope for extra leverage. While they’re heroes to fans these days, FTR know how to cheat like masters.
Bullet Club Gold Scores First Fall Of The Match
FTR would cut White down with some fast offense, but White got the bottom rope to prevent any pinfall plans. Robinson would get the tag and nail some stiff jabs to the face of Wheeler, before hitting the Left Hand Of God.
Wheeler was taken into a side headlock, but was able to fight back to his feet. A leg roll clutch on the mat would get Wheeler a two count, before channelling The British Bulldog for a press slam.
Harwood got the tag and showed why his nickname is Dax The Axe with some very stiff chops. A snap suplex and leg drop got a one count, with Harwood locking Robinson down afterwards to prevent a tag.
Robinson would break free and drive the shoulder of Harwood into the ring post, before tagging out to White – who would aim for the shoulder with chops and stomps.
FTR would take a set of snap DDT’s, before the Death Valley Driver got White a two count on Harwood. White was close to getting the first fall, with Sleeper Suplex being countered before Harwood would send some chops to the chest of White. Despite damage to the shoulder, his strikes were doing damage – and a big lariat would take White down.
Shatter Machine would be blocked by BCG, and Wheeler took the Blade Runner from Jay White – giving the first fall of this match. A commercial break would give FTR a brief chance to regroup – now needing to come back with back to back falls to remain AEW World Tag Team Champions.
Cash Wheeler Gets Tested By Bullet Club Gold
Robinson would get a wrist lock on Harwood, before taking him to the mat with an arm drag. White would get the tag but was launched with a Back Body Drop, before Wheeler got the tag.
A Burning Lariat would almost tie things up, but White remained in the fight before a snap suplex. Robinson would get a front facelock applied, but was thrown with a suplex – right into a tag to White.
White prevented a tag to Harwood, and hit a Neckbreaker for a two count. Wheeler was pulled to the floor and nailed with a DDT, with Robinson asking for the ref to start counting.
There would be no count-out however, with Robinson attacking as Wheeler got back into the ring. White ensured Wheeler remained in enemy territory with a chinlock, before tagging in Robinson for some easy strikes.
Wheeler would fight his way into a Sunset Flip on Robinson, but missed a tag to White. White would avoid try to keep Wheeler away from a tag, but was dropped with a Hurricanrana – and Harwood hit the ring. Wheeler took a break as Harwood unleashed hard strikes, before a springboard crossbody for a two count.
German Suplexes would land, before a Brainbuster for a near fall. Frustration wouldn’t win out, and Harwood remained focused – trying to apply the Sharpshooter, but being kicked into the BCG corner. A headlock suplex into the corner set up the running cannonball, but Harwood didn’t let the titles slip yet.
FTR would get a Super Sunset Flip with a lariat, but White refused to stay down. Pulling from The Briscoes playbook, Redneck Boogie would land – but White again kicked out. Powerplex was next, but Robinson was there to help – landing a splash on Harwood for a two count.
FTR Finally Get On The Board
Quickly regrouping, FTR would nail the Shatter Machine, and finally – tied this match up. With everything tied up, a time limit draw no longer benefits White & Robinson – and would see FTR remain champions. A commercial break would reset the match, but both teams were still ready to fight until the bitter end.
Harwood would take White to the apron to look for a suplex, before trying instead for a piledriver – being dropped on his back as White countered.
A powerbomb attempt on White would see both men fall into the crowd, with the ringside doc checking out both men. Harwood would rise to his feet first, and White was close behind before a brainbuster on the floor.
Robinson would take a double suplex on the floor, leaving both members of BCG down – with the match nearly ending in countout – but White was shoved into the ring by Robinson at the count of nine. All four men would get into the ring, drawing the line in the sand and getting into a brawl for it all.
Wheeler & Robinson would end up on the floor after a suplex got too close to the ropes, leaving White & Harwood in the ring, butting heads as they fought to their feet.
White would get his feet first before a series of Dragon Screw leg whips on the mat and an inverted Figure Four Leg Lock – with Harwood reaching for a tag, only for Wheeler to be taken out by Robinson.
The Sharpshooter Does The Job In Calgary
He’d manage the ropes, before White locked in the Sharpshooter – a sacred move in Calgary. White would be unable to hold Harwood in place – with the bottom rope in reach.
Harwood had no tag option, and would go for the backdrop driver off the top rope. Five minutes would remain in the match, and Robinson pulled Wheeler off the apron as Harwood almost got the tag.
RegalPlex from White in the ring would get a near fall. BCG have five minutes to win this match, and Blade Runner would have done it – but Harwood countered. FTR got both members of BCG in the Sharpshooter, but White & Robinson locked hands – urging each other to not tap – with FTR losing their grip.
Harwood would pull down his kneepad and put Robinson into the Sharpshooter – bending back as far as he could. Robinson would tap out, and with just two minutes on the clock – FTR remain the AEW World Tag team Champions. Who will challenge FTR next?
