At Forbidden Door 2023, Jack Perry was completely outclassed when he faced the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, SANADA. Perry was embarrassed and after the bell would attack his friend HOOK.
He would take the chance to turn heel, and has doubled down, shedding away any scraps of his Jungle Boy persona. The past few weeks has been a game of cat and mouse, with HOOK hunting Perry down.
Tonight, HOOK will finally get his hands on Perry as they meet in a singles match – with the FTW Championship on the line.
Jack Perry Buries His Past In The Sand
Perry would debut a new theme song, getting rid of Tarzan Boy and instead using some Beethoven. A vignette aired where he buried his old gear in the desert – those being the boots he’s worn in every single match he’s had in AEW. HOOK meanwhile remained cool in the face of a friend turned rival, still turning his back during his entrance.
Perry would rush in but missed HOOK, hitting the corner hard before being hit with a flurry of body blows. HOOK would follow Perry to the floor, where he whipped him hard into the barricade and into the crowd. A jumping superman punch off the barricade followed from HOOK, before he’d roll Perry back into the ring.
HOOK tried for a suplex, but took a poke to the eye instead. Perry would push HOOK into the corner and choke him with his boot, before this again flowed out to the floor. HOOK got some big strikes in, but another eye poke would follow – putting Perry back in control.
In the ring again, HOOK would be choked on the ropes as Perry stood on his back – a very Christian Cage style of move. Perry would tease the crowd with a springboard, but would refuse to give them what they want. HOOK would take advantage, and tossed Perry off the apron with a T-Bone Suplex.
HOOK Finally Tastes Defeat In AEW
Perry would linger on the floor before driving HOOK into the ring post. A draping DDT on the floor would follow, and Perry was fine with a potential count out victory – but HOOK found the ring at the count of nine.
Perry would kick HOOK in the face before a Deadlift German Suplex. HOOK would roll right to his feet, showing some fighting spirit before a Bridging German Suplex for a near fall.
Perry would use his body as a shield to ensure the referee missed the low blow. The sliding elbow to the back of the neck would follow, but HOOK was able to kick out just before three. Perry would grab the FTW Championship from ringside, but HOOK caught him in Redrum.
HOOK would be driven into the referee while applying the choke, and despite being tossed with a big suplex – Perry would recover and use the belt. Perry would pin HOOK, ending the undefeated streak and becoming the sixth FTW Champion in the history of the belt.
