Earlier today in Japan, Eddie Kingston would start his first G1 Climax tournament. Coming into the tournament with the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship around his waist, Kingston felt he had a lot to prove – and did just that with a victory over Shingo Takagi.
Defeating a former IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in a hard hitting match was great for Kingston – but can he do it twice?
Eddie Kingston Agrees With Shingo Takagi That They Need A Rematch
During his post-match comments, Shingo would express frustration with his performance today – and said that he wants a rematch with Kingston. Kingston would have a chance to respond with his comments – and called for Tony Khan to book the rematch for All In. The following was said by Eddie Kingston.
“The dream lives on, folks. I’m not going to lie when I saw I was paired up against Shingo, former IWGP World Champion, I was so nervous. I tried to play it off like I was cool. I was so nervous.
He’s so good. I’m not going to lie and sit here and say, ‘Yeah, I beat his ass.’ I didn’t. I’m a little disappointed in my performance. The hernia surgery I had eight weeks before the tour of Japan started acting up after he gave me a knee to the gut. It’s a lot of pain. No excuses, though. I won. I got lucky. I’m going to have to do better against EVIL.
Shingo, I’m not going to talk a lot of trash. This is a sport, and I’m going to treat it like a sport. Thank you for the fight, and I hope we do it again. Tony Khan, I’m going to put you on the spot. Me and Shingo, All In, All Out, give us time. Me and Shingo will show the world Strong Style and King’s Road combined.”
Right now, there is no matches announced for All In – but we know Shingo will be in London, as he faces Will Ospreay at the Rev Pro 10th Anniversary show the day before All In.
