Following WrestleMania 39, former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre would vanish from TV. What followed was months of speculation and reports of McIntyre being unhappy with his role in WWE.
Add in an injury, and it seemed like McIntyre was set to sit at home until his WWE contract ended in 2024. However – at Money in the Bank, McIntyre would return following GUNTHER vs. Matt Riddle for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, laying The Ring General out. He’s back – and isn’t paying attention to the future right now, but focusing on the present.
Drew McIntyre Says What Matters Is The Present, And Presently – He’s Back
While appearing on WWE’s weekly talk show The Bump – McIntyre would have a message for all the fans in WWE who didn’t get to see him during his time away, and would address his future. McIntyre had the following to say.
“I just want to apologize for everybody, that I missed my dates, I missed the towns. It’s not like me, unless there’s a reason. Obviously, the rumor and innuendo is out there. What’s going on with Drew McIntyre? What’s going on with the future? The future doesn’t matter. What matters is the present, and presently, Drew McIntyre is back. If you’re heading to a WWE show and Drew McIntyre’s there, you know you’re gonna get 110%, and finally, I’m chasing that big moment with a title in front of live fans. So let’s make that happen finally.”
McIntyre remains one of the more sincere babyface names in WWE. He’s got a chip on his shoulder after his time as WWE Champion was mostly spent in the Thunderdome, and having failed to win championships since. He’s someone that’s very easy for fans to get behind to, as he has a genuine personality that helps him connect with them.
These attributes also could be used by another company such as All Elite Wrestling if he leave the company. For now, we know his attention is on the WWE Intercontinental Championship, where a singles meeting with GUNTHER is anticipated by fans after their involvement in a critically acclaimed triple threat match at WrestleMania 39.
