Alex Koslov is a wrestler and NJPW commentator who made his name in Mexico but had been through WWE developmental and IMPACT in the 2010s. While in WWE’s pre-NXT developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling, the idea of pairing him with Miro—then known as Rusev—was bandied about.
NJPW Commentator Recalls Scrapped WWE Plans to Team Him AEW Star Miro While Both Were in Developmental
On the Developmentally Speaking podcast, Alex Koslov shared the seemingly light plans for the tandem and how stressful that period of his life of was as a result of his late developmental run..
“The only ideas, the only path I had over there was me and Rusev. Me and Rusev started tagging, but it was kind of towards the tail end of my time there. It was actually the most stressful time of my life over there when I was in FCW. They were thinking of putting me and Rusev on the road at that time but, they had to release people and had to make the cuts, and I was one of ‘em.”
WWE budget cuts will derail plans as the roster is often looked at to make those cuts. That gives us many “what ifs” as well as opinions on who survived the cuts. In the case of Alex Koslov, it didn’t appear as if WWE had actual plans for him in 2012—which is just as well since he had grown tired of the schedule.
Following his release, Koslov headed to Japan and the indies where he formed a strong, championship-winning tag team with New Japan star Rocky Romero in the Forever Hooligans, the junior tag force for the CHAOS stable. Koslov would step away from the ring in 2015.
By January 2015, Miro would’ve made his WWE debut the year prior and had won his first WWE championship via the U.S title. Since then, Koslov has been brought in as a commentator for New Japan’s broadcasts in the U.S market. As we know, Miro has since left WWE and joined AEW.
