When a wrestler can bounce back from injury and return to the ring, that’s always a major personal and professional victory. After all, they’re entertainers and athletes—they should be in front of an audience performing. Tyler Breeze knows this well as he has returned to the ring after two years away.
Tyler Breeze Returns to the Ring and His Former WWE Roster Mates Rejoice
The match occurred in Knoxville, TN on July 8, 2023 and saw Breeze defeat Matt Cross to win the NGW Championship in Next Generation Wrestling. Wrestling simply as Breeze, the former NXT Tag Team champion had been off WWE television since June 2021. In that appearance, he and Breezango teammate Fandango–now Dirty Dango in IMPACT Wrestling—defeated Imperium on NXT.
His comeback photo was posted to Instagram with an announcement that he was open to bookings. Breeze is shown posing with WWE superstar and good buddy Xavier Woods. Considering he is still listed as being a WWE talent, it makes him wrestling on a non-WWE event and accepting booking interesting.
Tyler Breeze is still technically signed to WWE through his regular appearances on Woods’ UpUpDownDown channel on YouTube. So, to fans who mainly watch the wrestling-story-related programming it will seem like he’s been out or released.
Technically, he was released in 2021 but just wasn’t in action. Apparently, his contract also prevents him from appearing in AEW but it isn’t specified if it also includes all broadcasted or competing brands such as IMPACT or legal nemesis MLW.
With his announcement came kudos and emojis from fans and friends such as Xavier Woods, Dolph Ziggler, Natalya, Mojo Rawley, and Renee Paquette among others. Tyler Breeze first made his appearance in the WWE system in 2010 via the old Florida Championship Wrestling territory.
For most of his career he has been in WWE, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on an independent circuit—and a greater wrestling industry—that is very different from when he left. Who knows, we might get another Matt Cardona or it might be that extra seasoning he needs before a big WWE return run like Lashley and Drew McIntyre.
