Recently, a legend of ECW & WWE would make his debut for AEW. Rob Van Dam was the first man to challenge the newest FTW Champion Jack Perry – and he proved that he still has the skills that made him a star in the ring.
However, this came with some fan backlash, mainly from WWE fans who said that he betrayed the company after being put in their Hall of Fame back in 2021.
Rob Van Dam Had WWE’s Permission To Work With AEW
Taking to social media after hearing from fans about him doing WWE wrong, RVD would clear this up. RVD had the following to say.
“Some fans are saying I did WWE wrong by appearing on AEW. I wonder if they would all eat shit if I revealed that I had permission to do it? Or would they just move on to puke out the next meaningless bullshit that comes out of their mouths? Yeah, I figured. I’ll keep it to myself for now.”
WWE giving one of their legends approval to wrestle with AEW is a telling sign of how they view their biggest competition.
Even with AEW set to make records with their upcoming All In PPV, WWE aren’t overly threatened by them at this point.
Right now, RVD has a contract with WWE mainly to do with merchandise, still allowing him to wrestle in Impact Wrestling and now AEW.
We still don’t know if this is the start of a longer run of RVD in AEW. He previously told fans to “wait and see” about the future of him working with Tony Khan.
There has been talks of him showing up again however, after the success of his debut and match with Perry. You can read more about that here.
