At times, there is so much we don’t appreciate about wrestling as fans since it’s something subtle or we’re not behind the scenes to know various things.
One of those is the subtle things greats like Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and others do that’s off the script but has a huge influence on another wrestler going over.
Triple H Calls Brock Lesnar One of the Greatest of All Time
Lesnar has a reputation for telling people to slow down in the ring or what to do to make an impression, with one being when he told Drew McIntyre to hold up the WWE Championship after he took Lesnar out on the ramp prior to their WrestleMania 36 match.
Most recently, Lesnar has been putting Cody Rhodes over during their feud, but how he did it gives us a glimpse into the psyche it takes to truly make stars.
Going off script
In one of the latest and coolest going off script moments, Brock Lesnar surprised everyone by shaking Cody’s hand, embracing him, and then raising his hand following Cody’s win at SummerSlam.
More than an obvious face turn by Lesnar, it’s been perceived as a passing of the torch to the one the WWE hopes is their big star of the future.
Following SummerSlam, Triple H talked about it at the press conference and how the moment was unplanned. He also gave Lesnar the greatest compliment by saying he’s one of the greatest of all time.
“I know that Cody said he hasn’t had time yet to digest the Brock Lesnar moment after their match. Completely unplanned, completely in the moment, and for me, you know, Brock Lesnar is such a unique athlete, but I don’t think he gets the credit for being one of the all-time greats at this, right? You know, unbelievable athlete at the highest of levels, but just talking about sports entertainment, in my opinion, one of the greatest of all time.”
It speaks wonders about how great Lesnar is when he leaves Cody shocked and having to process the moment given all he’s seen and learned from Dusty Rhodes.
It’s an innate ability some have where they just know when to turn the page or flip the switch. Hulk Hogan was one of those as few ever understood the entertainment aspect of the business more than he did.
Moments like Lesnar putting Cody over are things we remember, and while it may not be as huge and Hogan handing the title to the Ultimate Warrior or others, it’s one that’ll go down as an unplanned idea that did wonders for Cody and the business.
