The Acclaimed would bring one last championship to the legendary career of Billy Gunn – as they won the AEW World Trios Championships from House of Black. After debuting new designs for the belts to suit themselves better, they would promise Chicago a title defence.
Tonight, they will make that come true – as they defend against Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker – formerly of the Jericho Appreciation Society.
The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass Won’t Be Stopped In Their First Defense
Parker would start alongside Bowens, taking a series of jabs with some personal scissoring from Bowens before the knockdown punch.
Garcia got the tag to trade blows with the legendary brawler that is Billy Gunn. When told to suck it, Garcia took a right hand to the jaw and landed right on the crotch of Gunn.
Menard & Parker would attack from ringside after Bowens got the tag, taking Caster & Gunn out. He took a piledriver from Garcia, and was locked in the Dragon Tamer as Menard & Parker would hold Gunn & Caster back. Bowens reached the ropes, but Menard took the referees attention as Jake Hager got a cheap shot in from ringside.
Finally, Gunn would break the hold – but was unable to get Bowens out of the ring. Parker hit a perfect snap suplex before a leg drop, all to keep Bowens isolated away from his fellow champions.
Finally, he’d break across the ring to the outstretched hand of Caster. Finally in the match, he’d run down everyone on the opposing team before a soaring crossbody for a two count.
Menard would hit an elbow to the face of Caster, the tag was made to Gunn. The Fame Asser would land – and started the end.
Bowens hit the Arrival, and the tag was made to Caster for the Mic Drop – marketing the first defence of The Acclaimed as AEW World Trios Champions. They would scissor with their custom titles, celebrating a victory earned.
Aussie Open Get A Dominant Win
Aussie Open have not been having a great week. They lost the ROH World Tag Team Championships to Better Than You Bay Bay, and failed to earn a rematch at All Out – being stopped in the Rampage Tag Team Battle Royale.
Tonight, they get to wrestle in Chicago – as they face two higher fliers in Komander & Nick Wayne. Aussie Open needs this win – with it being important to get back in the title mix.
Wayne & Kyle Fletcher would start the match – two of the most promising young names in AEW, at 18 & 24 respectfully, and alongside Komander hit a double dropkick to drop Fletcher.
Komander would take a scoop slam but dodged the running senton from Mark before applying the Flying Octopus Stretch. Davis would throw him aside, before Aussie Open nailed Dental Plan on Wayne before the combo DDT on Komander for a near fall.
Komander was held upside down in a delayed vertical suplex by Davis, and was handed off to Fletcher before finally being driven into the mat.
Using his speed to break away from Aussie Open, Komander made the tag to Wayne, who took Davis out of the ring with a dropkick before an Asai DDT on Fletcher. Wayne kept the pressure on, hitting Davis with a dive over the top rope, and a frog splash onto Fletcher for a near fall.
Aussie Open regained control and Coriolis was set, before Komander got involved before being crunched with a piledriver. Wayne used his speed to try to break Aussie Open down, before a Double Waynes World Cutter was turned into Coriolis for a dominant win.
Darby Allin Won’t Let Hate Win Again
After the match, Wayne was interviewed – and has an issue with Darby Allin. He forgave AR Fox for what he did to Wayne, despite Allin knowing him since he was 8 years old. Wayne’s father trained him – and Allin will explain why he made their choice.
Allin would tell a story about Buddy Wayne. There was a fight between Allin & Buddy, which led to him burning the bridge for three years. Before he could apologise and mend that bridge, Buddy passed away. Allin regrets this every single day. He wishes he could have made things right.
Allin refuses to live with the hate, that’s why he forgave him so fast. He doesn’t expect Wayne to just let it go right now, but hopes he find it in his heart to forgive. Allin would ask for Wayne to be in his corner tomorrow, and before he could accept – Christian Cage came to the ramp.
Cage would insinuate that he intends to get with Wayne’s mother, and fill the role of father. He’d call Wayne Allin’s personal pity project – trying to pretend to be a good person.
Cage meanwhile, isn’t pretending to be anything he isn’t, with the TNT Championship over his shoulder and champion behind him.
Wayne was told to bring a towel to ringside, to throw it in and save Allin from being massacred. Will Darby Allin become a three time TNT Champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
