Fans are still unsure of what is in the future of WWE legend Edge. Having returned to the ring in 2020 after being forced into early retirement – Edge would get as much done as possible in WWE.
He won another Royal Rumble, main evented WrestleMania, worked with younger stars like Grayson Waller, and formed what could be one of the more important factions in modern WWE with The Judgement Day.
However, following his match with Sheamus in Toronto – his WWE contract is done, and is now a free agent – one day before a major event for All Elite Wrestling.
Edge Has No WWE Contract Stopping Him From Showing Up At WrestleDream
Edge’s WWE contract officially lapses today – September 30th, 2023. This means that he could well show up tomorrow for AEW WrestleDream without issue. Unlike a WWE release, there is no 90 day non-compete clause when a contract comes to it’s end, meaning negotiations can be held immediately.
Edge would not be out of place in AEW – with some longtime friends like Christian Cage, Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy all calling AEW home. Cage in particular is someone important to the career of Edge – being his tag team partner for many years.
iven that Cage is wrestling in a ‘Best Two Out Of Three Falls’ match against Darby Allin for AEW WrestleDream tomorrow, and his usual partner of Luchasaurus is banned from ringside – an Edge debut could add extra drama to an already big match.
AEW Has Been Able To Present Legends Well Since 2019
One thing that AEW has proven since 2019 is their ability to do right by legends. The highlight filled runs of people like Chris Jericho, Sting and Christian Cage show this perfectly – and with Rob Van Dam having recently joined the roster as well, that’s another example to show how Tony Khan respects the legacy of professional wrestling.
Edge would perhaps be the biggest get since Sting – especially given the hype surrounding his next moves after his fantastic final WWE match against Sheamus.
He has done everything possible for his career in WWE – and has very few fresh chances. AEW will allow some fresh matches as he moves to a part time schedule – and a chance to finish his career alongside Christian, who recently signed a new contract with AEW.
