There are few who can deny the impact of The Shield on professional wrestling. The WWE faction of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose was an instant hit – and created three true stars.
Right now, Rollins & Reigns are the top champions of WWE, while Ambrose left to join All Elite Wrestling as Jon Moxley. His time in WWE came to an end when he refused to sign a new contract, and had Vince McMahon himself say that he was taken for granted.
Jon Moxley Knows When To Step Up
While speaking with Rich Ucchino of Bleav Pro Wrestling, Jon Moxley was asked about his work ethic – and how it led to WWE taking him for granted.
“I take a lot of pride in our work and our work ethic and the standard we set ourselves to, and the way we do the job. To be one of those guys that’s reliable, that’s always there, the downside is that it’s very easy to take you for granted. The last conversation I had with Vince McMahon, he straight up told me, we took you for granted.
It is a tough job because I got a lot of experience, a lot of stuff is very familiar to me and I’m comfortable doing stuff that a lot of other people may be intimated by. Orange Cassidy pulled off an amazing performance. He lost, but he pulled off an amazing performance in his first ever pay-per-view main event. That was not planned weeks out, in fact, everything would have looked completely different. That’s kind of how it’s going to go.
If you’re going to have any success in wrestling, it’s very rarely going to go according to plan, you’ve got to be ready to take the opportunity when it’s there and when things go array, and when the wave changes direction, you got to be able to surf on it and stay on your board and you’ve got to be able to go with the flow so to speak. Every big opportunity I’ve had, probably in my career, has come completely out of the blue. You got to be ready to get your shit together and strike when the iron is hot.”
Proving Himself Reliable In WWE & AEW
There are few men more reliable in professional wrestling than Moxley has been. Even when burnt out of the grind in WWE – he would finish up his dates with grace, and kept his future plans to join New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling well hidden. In AEW, he would step up on numerous occasions – including covering twice for CM Punk.
The first time came when Punk injured his foot, and AEW needed an Interim World Champion – which Moxley did while negotiations for a new AEW contract were happening.
Later the same year, after Punk would be suspended and injured again – Moxley would step up again, and win a tournament to crown a new champion before dropping the belt to MJF.
Even now as AEW International Champion – Moxley is proving himself reliable, already making three title defenses. Are you a fan of Jon Moxley?
