Fans are not impressed with WWE coming out of the 2022 Royal Rumble. It’s been called one of the worst WWE PPV’s of all time, and part of that stems from the result of the main event. After losing the WWE Championship to Bobby Lashley due to interference from Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar would somehow be able to enter the Royal Rumble at the coveted #30 spot and win the match. This was a lot of steps to take to get around to a Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns match – and changed the plans of the show, which originally saw Riddle come out on top.
Riddle Was Planned Royal Rumble Winner
This news comes originally from a report by PWInsider. Up until show time, WWE had planned for Riddle to get the win in the Royal Rumble, with him being the front-runner on the lead up to the match. Plans were shaky at best however, and Randy Orton was also considered to be a potential winner.
Reception to this news just added to WWE fatigue with fans, as Riddle would have been a perfect pick. He’s someone who is popular with fans, and is just one win away from being at a main event level – and this could have been that win. There is a chance that these plans lead to Lashley losing the WWE Championship to Riddle at Elimination Chamber or Wrestlemania.
Morale Is Low Backstage In WWE
This show also came with a low amount of backstage morale within the WWE locker room – with two part-time talents showing up to win the Royal Rumble. While Riddle isn’t the most popular name backstage, him winning would have been better for morale than Brock Lesnar.
It’s a bleak time for WWE, despite profits still being good. Fan interest is low,despite Wrestlemania looming and even talent is unhappy. There is also the potential for more releases coming, as their next earnings report is set to be released soon – which tends to be followed by the roster cuts.
