Political commentator Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu has blasted the Royal family for allowing Prince Andrew to attend the late Prince Philip’s memorial.
Political Commentator Dr Shola Blasts The Royal Family For Allowing Prince Andrew To Attend Prince Philip’s Memorial-‘A Slap In The Face…Shameful’
It is entirely understandable that there would be a negative perception around this, given the fact that Andrew was accused of sexual assault.
While he has managed to settle outside of court with Virgina Giuffre, that has not been enough to satisfy Andrew’s detractors. After all, there was a feeling that people needed to be held accountable in the aftermath of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
But with Andrew avoiding jail time, coupled with the fact that the taxpayer may pay for his settlement towards Virginia, Dr Shola was not impressed by the message that Andrew’s appearance sent.
In a statement, Dr Shola said: “It was a slap in the face to see the Queen as Head of State publicly endorse disgraced Prince Andrew with such a prominent role at Prince Philip’s memorial service.”
“Like all is forgiven and forgotten? It’s not. Royal Family don’t care what we think or feel. Entitled galore. Shameful.”
Nevertheless, not everybody was in agreement with those comments. A certain subset of people felt that Andrew’s conduct had to be put to one side, given that he was remembering his father.
Not only that, but with Queen Elizabeth not having as many people to rely on following the departure of Prince Harry, Andrew naturally bridged that gap.
Hugo Vickers, who happens to be a Royal historian, had this to say: “It was] “entirely correct and appropriate, [a ]nice gesture. [The Queen] needs an arm…Who better than her son?”
The Queen was left in a difficult decision. By not bringing Andrew to the service, it would have clearly shown the public that she has cut ties with her son.
But by bringing him along, it is a slap in the face to all those that have suffered, as a result of the Epstein scandal. And there is no getting away from that, irrespective of how it comes across. So there you have it folks. What do you think about all of this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
